well, i succumbed and decided to go out and visit the swanky bars of london last night - thought it was better than staying and broding over the scan on tuesday....... although once out, I kinda of wished I had stayed in!! Well a girl is allowed to change her mind....!!

Icsi, - we had a smoking ban come in Jul 07, which basically its no smoking in any bars, clubs, resturants, shops etc..... personally I much prefer it than come home stinking however also being an ex smoker (same as you, great with a drink) can understand the frustration of the smokers. Its funny, as last night you walk by these bars and you see all these people huddled outside for a quick smoke (bearing in mind it was bloody freezing ) so thats dedication for you - as I certainly wouldn't have bothered if I still smoked!! I gave up when I met DH as he was really anti so nearly 9 yrs now
Both of my parents smoked when we were born/grew up although used to hate it when we were in the car and they smoked :x

Your crock pots sound fab - think the only thing we have over here which sounds familiar are pressure cookers - throw it all in and leave but they are not plugged in - you use them on a stove....I must have a look next time i go shopping!!

Hope - enjoy your trip - stay safe in that snow!! Hows your grandma ??

Nicaliw - don't worry about not doing personals - youll get used to us very quickly  Where abouts did you grow up in England.....are you still an english rose by heart??

It sounds like a lot of us have been in the same boat re mc - so you have def come to the right place - it is really hard to keep positive when you have gone through all of that but we are all here to keep you on the straight and narrow and provide that PMA for you :D

Carolyn - been out hitting the bottle have we!! hope the hangover has gone, actually it is quite nice to wake up with that thumping headache !! As they say, the hair of the dog always works!

I'm feeling really down today, just spoken to my best friend on the phone and I just burst in to tears - I think it is the waiting for the scan is getting me down and the thought that it could all go wrong again - I'm losing hope day by day - I know it sounds silly but need a sign that all is ok - my b@@bs don't feel so sore and this is what happened last time - I know it sounds selfish as I have managed to get a BFP, but for me this is the hardest part getting through the 7wk scan.

i just need a sign....some good olde m/sickness would be great!!

hugs to all
nims xx

Nimble - I felt just like you last week. My bbs had been on fire the first few days but that had faded and I wasn't feeling sick or anything. I was so worried there'd be nothing to see on the scan but everything was ok. Keep up the pma, will be thinking of you.
Sorry I kept you waiting for news on the scan. I was freezing my butt off at a torch-lit carol concert at my niece's school on what must have been the coldest day of the year!

Nicaliw - don't worry about the personals. It takes a while to get to grips with everyone on here but you'll get to know us soon.

ICSI - As Nims said they banned smoking in all public places here in the summer. This includes work places. The hospital I work in has actually banned it anywhere within the grounds so there's often patients with drips, wheelchairs etc (even beds sometimes!) hanging around the entrance to the site and a steady stream of nurses heading for the nearby woods on their breaks. We also do a load of prescriptions for nicotine patches etc. :D

Hi to everyone else. Sorry no more personals, I'm knackered. The tiredness seems to have really kicked in this weekend. Great, just in time for the busiest week of the year at work
I finally put my tree up yesterday yeeaahhh! It feels like christmas now :)

Su- Oh dear, it is just feeling like Christmas now that you put up your tree?? Mines been up for about 2 weeks and today's foot of FREAKING snow has certainly put it all in perspective....granted it was on top of the already 1/2 foot that was on the ground! I'm done til next year people!!! You get the rest you can while you can girl! In fact, go veg right now!!! Grab a movie and a blanket...ooo and some cocoa!!!

Rachel- go to hear you are feeling better...just keep in mind with your iron tabs come constipation!!!! I know it isn't a fun conversation, but are you taking a stool softner too :) Sorry but the pharmie in me just wants to make sure!!!

Nims- don't worry bout the BBs! Those signs come and go! Mine were so bad, and look where I got! So them not hurting doesn't mean anything, your hormones go up and down and up and down like mad. Don't stress ok until you have something to stress about (which you won't!). It feels great to go out though doesn't it! Even though you were probably pooped by 8pm hahaha. If you stayed in just remember you would be saying today, oh I wish I had gone :) Sending you lots of good vibes for Tuesday!!!! Here is a website of the actual BRAND of crockpot...granted there are lots of companies that make em http://www.crock-pot.com/ but maybe that gives you an idea...mine's makin chicken chili as we speak :D mmmm goood cold weather food...gonna make me some cornbread to go with it....mmmmm

Carolyn- I'll whisper this one in case your head is still brewing....how is going now? I was expecting a hangover from last night too only cuz I was so dang dehydrated and it has been forever since I drank....luckily for me (and the snow) I was 100%...though I slept past 10am :O

nicaliw- don't you worry bout those personals, it is tough sometimes (especially if you have been away for a bit or new in your case). You'll get to know the crazy lot here soon enough! I think we are getting all the snow you guys got last year here! I'm in NH. Do you have a lot of support around you while going through your MC? For me I don't have too much except on the boards, I'm single, didn't tell too many and those I did tend to not mention anything about it. For me it is fine, I don't like talking bout it to much, but sometimes I worry about whether it is good for me mentally. I joined a MC group on Ivillage and they are truly wonderful there...if you need more support! For me it has been just 4 weeks tomorrow and even though there is no more bleeding, I have my good days and bad. Sending big hugs and a shoulder to cry on your way if you need ok!

Hope- how does BGB not fall over! I mean of course in the water they are a natural life preserver but in everyday life she must be top heavy...see in everyday life I'm BOTTOM heavy so I live the life of a weeble wobble, I bounce right back up! In Angie's world however...a much BETTER place I might add...I constantly have my harem picking me up off the ground when my BGBs knock me down :) As far as the headaches, I think they were worse on the way down, maybe because the flux was so much more rapid than on the way up??? Tylenol didn't cut it, but at night I found a thermacare heat wrap at the base of my neck and I nice long sleep helped a bit. How's Sassy doing? Probably not listening to anyone huh :)

Angie- don't you know smoking stunts your growth :) So it is good you stopped, either that or how can we grow big and tall an skinny??? I too lately feel like a 75 yr old...most the time I'm sooo ready to curl up in my nice warm bed rather than hang with friends (oh and that is as soon as the alarm goes off in the morning!!!!) Pathetic! Living here in NH we don't have swanky bars haha, but we just recently passed a ban here. Being born and raised in CA where I think smoking has been banned for like 20 years, I can say it is a wicked horrible adjustment for me like when I had been traveling through Europe. Last night I drove my broken friend to our Christmas party (at a brew pub haha) and her apt is smoky though she tried to quit a few months back...and then she smoked from the car to the pub's door...I hate getting that smell on my clothes and hair...yuck. I kept telling her it would stunt her growth too! My mom smoked while I was a kid...my dad and I made her smoke outside haha

Ok as for me, yes as I said, buttloads of snow! Got one load of it plowed and shoveled today during a break. Then as I was finishing up it all fell off my metal roof....think avalache! *&^%^%$!!!!!!! So I get the shovel back out to do that. Then I let the dogs go play in it....get the shovel back out cuz they made a mess of the path! Then as I was cleaning off the wood shed it started sleeting big sleet balls....owwwwiiieee!!!! Damn it so I gave up! Still working on the laundry...I need to bath the stinky dogs, but it is sooo cold I don't want to do it anymore cuz I don't want them to turn into frozen pups when they go out at dindin time  I need to clean...oooo but my 75 yr old body isn't liking that idea! I did go to our work Christmas shindig last night...missed my hottie intern who was still taking finals :(MAN I'd love for him to be my NATURAL donor  yummy! But it was fun, got me out of the house, but the night ended early cuz everyone wanted to beat the storm home...party pooers!!! OH but on an exciting note, last night as I was leaving fer the party I got wicked bad cramps, didn't feel like AF like, more like O on my right side...I know odd though since about a week or so ago I felt O like twinges on my left! I was just HOPING that my bod is cramping for an AF soon!!!! AAARRGHHH come on stupid WITCH!!!! Oh Ang, when I was on bcps, I'd take my last pill Sat and AF would usually show on Tues or Weds...the longer I took em it typically showed on Weds. Hope that gives you an idea! You stop on Tues right? I will let my body know ok.

Alright, I think it is time for some microwaved cookie dough...OH yes, just as bout a good idea as the crock pot ladies!!!! mmmmmm good!

hello my lovely lady friends,

sorry it has taken me so long to write back, but i had my transfer on friday and was then on bed rest for 2 days and then yesterday i still felt really dizzy, but i am back at work today feeling okay.

here is my embie update: out of the 12 follies 5 were mature and fertilized; they transferred 4 with 3 being of "good" quality, whatever that means and 1 being "average". as you can hear from my tone of voice i am concerned that the embryos are not good enough and it's not going to work out again even though my doctor said he is very hopeful and thinks it's going to work out. well, that's what he said last time when i had 4 "better" quality embies transferred and got a bfp. i am really trying to stay positive, but it is so hard. i also just found out yesterday, that my neighbor who is 40 got pregnant again and they kept talking about the baby's room etc, while the other neighbor really wants a third child but this time it would be nice if it would finally be a girl. then she looked at me and asked what i wanted ... well ... you can imagine how i felt. sorry to be so down today, but i guess it must be the 2ww. i will test on 24/12 and 26/12, so i'll find out next week. i hope so much that this will be my time ...
has any of you heard of success stories with embies that were not "perfect", i really need to hear some. PLEASE!!!

hey ladies ------ wassss up????????? :P missed you all terribly this weekend........although --- was VERY busy!! on friday night, we attended dh's annual work holiday party ---- OPEN BAR (which means FREE DRINKS) :P :P :P :P when they cut us off from there at the very early hour of 10pm (WTF?? ) we took our drunk arses bowling!!! what a hoot --- we haven't bowled in YEARS!!! now add drunk on top of that!! had a lovely time - but can't imagine as lovely as swanky bars in london!!!!!!!!!!!! OH WAIT --- we did party w/ a gay guy all night long ---- does that count?????? can i just go on record as saying that gay men are some of the BEST people in the whole wide world??? (i have several gay friends if you can't tell!!) LOVE 'EM!!!!!! this is a guy my dh works with and he's SUCH a riot!! we came dragging in around 3am -- UGH  had just a tiny headache but more than anything -- wanted FOOD!!!!! so i made a nice big breakfast w/ eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, toast and juice!! seemed to do the trick! didn't do too much thru the day on saturday ---- i DID get my FREEDOM FERTILITY box -- woo-hoo!!!!! .....then during the eve went to see the nutcracker ballet!!! was oh-so-good!!!!!!! but after the show (9pm'ish) the roads were snow covered and it was coming down HEAVY!!!!! so it took me forever to get home :x continued all thru the night........dh had to dig us out nearly 4 times on sunday!!! we got well over a foot!! and on sunday i finished wrapping EVERY SINGLE thing and now all i will have to do is prepare the food!!! can't wait!!! OH and then this morning at work - i rec'd my meds from LONDON!!!! HEY --- speaking of which --- girls, are your meds over there in vials where you must break off the top?????? because that's what these are (menopur - generic version) and i was just a little concerned as our meds over here are no longer made that way -- if anything in a vial -- it has a rubber-stop/top that you just poke the needle thru -- is quite handy actually, so i was surprised when i got these?? must say though, will require a little more time/effort as i'll have to snap each top off as i use it AND you can't set them down - they don't have flat bottom -- they are shaped more like a test tube......gonna be tricky!!! EITHER WAY --- i now have ALL MY MEDS!!!! I take my last bcp tomorrow.....wait for AF, go in for my baseline and get this party started!!! With any luck at all ---- i'll be stimming by the end of week!!!

pumma --- YEAH!!!! 4 embies snuggling in....well done  try to not let your emotions get the best of you.........ok???? i know is SO much easier said than done.....and i'm getting close to that point as well and am so NOT looking forward to it  just hang in there.......your embies need your PMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

steph ---- i said i didn't want any soap-box speech's on my OLD (NASTY) habit!!! ha, ha, ha!! you need to believe me though when i say -- it did NOT stunt my growth in the least!!!! One look at my arse will prove your theory wrong!!! :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P (am really so glad i stopped though........) btw --- any more signs of AF???????? i'm done w/ my pills tomorrow.......then what you said --- couple days......so -- by my caclulation --- you still have couple days to INSIST on her arrival!!

rachel ---- so good that your flu is finally clearing up......is never fun being sick :(

su -- seriously.........you JUST put your tree up???  i am only being honest when i say that if i got to this point in holiday season and still didn't have tree up ----- i would not bother!!! NOPE!!! but that's coming from somebody who's had her tree up since week before thanksgiving (mid/end november)!!! ha, ha, ha!!! OH YEAH -- hospitals are same over here --- everybody dragging their I.V. w/ them out to the side of the road to have their fix!!! ha, ha, ha!!!!! (even w/ snow on the ground!)

nims ----- YEAH!!! SWANKY BARS IN LONDON!!! Not to worry darling --- your scan will be LOVELY! :P ****** MAGIC WAND SWISH-SWASHING AROUND!!!!!******** let us know straight away as we'll all be anxiously awaiting the WONDERFULLY POSITIVE results!!!  oh yeah --- just fyi --- we have pressure cookers here as well............don't like it AS MUCH as my crock pot!!!

carolyn ---- MY HERO!!!! heard that magic word --- SIESTA!!! i've often thought i'd make a horribly selfish mother when the day came because i LOVE my naps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but for the record ----- would give them up in a heartbeat for my BFP! (hope you're feeling better by the way)

niclaw --- no time at all and you'll feel like you're one of the gang!! although, will say -- unlike some of the other threads --- we are pretty active.......AND more importantly ---- have bonded like no other thread i've been a part of :P WELCOME!!

hope --- how is SASSY??? hope she's feeling better  i've always maintained this is the bestest, most theraputic thing i could ask for!! (our thread!!!) is awesome......good days --- bad days.......it's all GOOD!!

must get to work....one of my "high maintenance" guys is shooting his mouth off about something   must go put out fires he's started!!!!!! damn it!! don't need this on monday morning~!!

ok Ang, that's ENOUGH!!! NO MORE FREAKING SNOW!!!!! I'm done ok, no more nada!!!! I totally sypathize (is that a word?) with your hubby! Yesterday was fine cuz it wasn't windy and using the "plow" is no big deal. I had to do it today by hand cuz it is so damn windy it would just blow back in my face and I'd look like one of those guys on Mt Everest with snot-cicles! Oh well, guess it means I didn't need to get on the treadmill today! I like how you guys didn't let the storm cut your party short though...unlike us :( Oh well, still had a good time. Now if my hottie intern would get his arse back here so I can party with him (though my schedule sucks, who knows when we will get a chance!) But omg all this snow makes me think back to when we'd go sledding in college! There was a hill in town at a park that was awesome for sledding!!! My backyard has a puny one, but I wanna good long ride!!! I also want AF to show up grrrrrr!!!! Today I was like oooo is that my BG R(ight) BB that is tingly/tender  maybe??? could it be???? O PLEASE!!!!!! Of course it could be all the poking of the dang thing that makes it hurt so! No cramps no nothing...I usually don't have much though anyways til the day after it starts that is why I just have the hardest time not knowing!!!!! My body is stupid!!!

Ok I better go grab some lunch before I have to go to hell, uh work, this afternoon

ICSI - my menopur came as vials of powder with rubber stoppers but the diluent was in ampoules. We still have a lot of meds in those over here although I've only seen ones with flat bottoms. They usually snap ok, if there's a coloured spot near the top then you need to snap away from that as it indicates the weak point and it may shatter otherwise. You can get little plastic things that go over the top to protect your fingers too (called ampoule snappers), may be worth asking about these.
As far as putting them down once opened, usually the shape of the amp means that even if its laid down it shouldn't leak out but hard to tell without seeing them.
Hope that helps

BTW --- i pulled them back out (i have them tucked under my desk here at work) and su - you're right, they do have flat bottoms -- silly me   i'll stop my whining now!

yeh ang, wut su said hahah....don't know bout the amp snapper things she said but what we do is take a small piece of gauze (you can buy in the 1st aid aisle at drugstore). Wrap it round the neck (where the color line is) grab it like a snap pea or bean and snap it with your top hand coming towards you...sorta like when you open a can of beer  the gauze will protect your hands and keep shards from going everywhere. You literally "snap its neck". No twisting!!! Now did they give you filter syringe needles? They are used to keep any glass that may have splintered from getting into the syringe...then you change to a new needle....ok so that is how we do it in hospital, but not quite sure your set up. as far as it spilling if you put it down, well it is possible. We get a lot of training to manuver with 1 hand so all I can say is maybe have hubby near by to use his hands, too :) I know there are some drugs that like Su said could be a combo of powder and diluent (liquid used to reconstitue the powder) but there are also many drugs here that are already to go in the amp...sounds like what you got right? The US has moved away from using amps, more so for the risk of cutting yourself when opening em

So did you only get 1 set of needles and syringes? Did they send those? Vials of powder and liquid?

I have to go to work now  but I will check back tonite when I get home bout 10:30 my time (EST). I know you have crap dial up but if you need I usually get on between then and 11...depends on how quickly I get outta there and how quickly I can pee the doggies :)

Hello All

Post by stephjim »

Hello all,

I finally got AF after having this month canceled by the doc. So I go for my US to check for cycsts Wed and then Day 12 US next Friday. I hope for a better outcome with the meds this time, if not, I may try to convince my husband to move on to IVF even though I promised him we would give AI 3 tries. We have tried twice.

How is everyone else doing? I am at work, so I cannot go through the list right now with everyone's name.

Hoping for many BFP's this month.

as always --- THANKS STEPH :D i actually got the stuff that su was referring to ---- is powder (actually looks like a little chunk of something -- not loose like baby powder --- who knew???) anyway......amps of powder w/ equal amounts of amps of saline.....will be using 3 of the powders to one saline.....i am SUCH a retard  so the first time around doing this i was all "how do i get all the saline from one into 2 of the powders????" :?: my nurse --- bless her heart......"you draw up the saline - put into one of the powders......draw all of THAT solution back up into the syringe and then back into powder #2" i was all OHHHHHHH.... now i get it!!! ha, ha, ha, ha!!! but no -- they actually didn't send ANY needles/syringes as is more likely to get caught up in customs they said --- so that part is on my own..........my doc's office said they would hook me up as these are intra-muscular, not just sub-q  oh well --- for the cost savings ---- i'd do it again in a minute!!!! (i may be singing a different tune a week from now!!!) ALSO.......while i appreciate you're willingness to come back after work ----- i gotta tell ya steph, my a$$ will be FAST ASLEEP by then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Helloooooooo - just little ole me again lol

Just a quickie (as my DH always says) a wee message for ICSI :)

ICSI: The Menopur vials u got - i had those too - i had 4 a day that i had to use.
I had 1 x liquid and 4 x powder wee bottles (he powder strength depends on what ur actually on and ur DR should decide that)
Open the powder by nipping the neck of each bottle, DH says there is a wee dot to show u the weak part so its easier to snap off! Suck up the liquid using the 'big' needle (its ok, u dont inject urself with that one lol) and inject the water back into the vial, the powder will disintergrate into the liquid, then suck that liquid back up using the same needle. Do this untill all ur recommended dose of vials are done (i had 4 to do) and then once all vials are finished - change the top of the needle to the little one, and inject into ur thigh/stomach - or wherever u feel comfortable injecting .....
Just realised - do u have all the different needles u need? I had yellow ones and pink ones (i think) anyhow, i could tell which ones were used for sucking and which ones were used for injecting - i would have fainted if i had to inject with the pink one - fecking huge it was lol!
Anyway - i hope ive explained it right - when do u start on ur eggey food - oh and may i also say - i got 12 eggs with the menopur and thought it was brilliant (mind u i have never used anything else lol)
Oh - and u have to keep them in the fridge too - they have to be kept cool ...

Have fun - happy injecting lol

Rachel - so glad the flu is finally going, atleast you can start to feel normal for christmas - hope the iron tabs work!

Hey steph checked out your website - I've def not seen anything like those over here and asked a couple of work colleagues - they stared at me blankly!!

Boy you guys are really getting the snow aren't you - is it normally like this?? Oh would love to be snowed in and no work   unfort we are just freezing our butts off - its that bitter cold wind that goes right through - send me some snow now ....we haven't had a white christmas in years (well where i live) - that would be so magical.

oh so you have a hottie intern do you - do you stalk him regularly

So any sign of the witch or was she just tantalising you with a few cramps? Well time you get home hun, I'll be sleeping my little head off so catch up with you toms hopefully with some good news

Pumma - well done on the transfer - now don't worry about the quality of the embies - last year I had the only 2 that fert put back in and were of poor quality and I got a BFP, 2nd time around, 2 grades A's put back and BFN so you just can't tell! Lets hope your christmas eve will bring joyous news.

Icsi - you know us over here, we are always behind in meds and technology........ I did menupor last time round and came in little ampules and with vials of water - really easy - I was using 3 ampules to 1 water so had spare waters left over which was good as some did shatter as I broke the top off - but Steph, didn't realise you could get special sringes - now someone tells me  Oh and I could stand them all up - thank god, I would have run out of hands trying to do that many per day!!! And Steph, trust you to compare to opening a beer!!! :D

Your night out sounds like a blast - yeah I think hanging out w/gay guys counts as much as swanky bars - i love them, they are so much fun, and working where I do (airport) there are just loads around and they are fab!!

stephjim - i think you must have pinched stephs AF!! well done and good luck - you won't need IVF, you do it this time round.

So now on final count down to the scan - I don't think I have ever been in this state before.....aaarrrrggghhhhh........guess i know now what can happen..........doing the b@@b test as I type (sorry gals) and they seem to be tender again, but boy are they bruised from all my pinching....nah only kidding, but god love them, they have had a really battering this weekend from all my poking and proding....surprised they havent gone into hiding! No such luck!!! That was one area that smoking didnt stunt me
