Good Morning Ladies...

Kim- Aubrey is taking 1-2 naps a day (about 1-2 hours at a time)... when she's not napping she's having tummy time, watching her DVD's & having someone talk to her - also eating! When she gets home at night we try and space out her feedings so that she's eating around 9:30-10:00pm each night, which helps her sleep until 6:30-7:00am each morning. I've noticed she also sleeps better on bath nights (every other night)... we give her a bath, give her a massage, give her a bottle & then read her a book... she falls asleep real fast.

I hope things get better for you really soon... I'm so thankful that Aubrey is being so good... it was hard enough going back to work.

Colleen- I hope your DS's leg is doing better....

Well back to work...
Tasha

hi girls.. just have a few minutes... we are on the run today filled with my doc appointments... we have had 2 dentists in the am, a quick nap, and then Gavin is getting a check up, and Caden is getting his stiches checked... so we are busy....

the kids are doing better today.. last night we got 8 1/2 hours of sleep... so he's doing better with that, but seems a lot more fussy during the day?? I can not get any shopping done without him crying 1/2 way through.... then the cart has to be moving ALL then time or we get screems... he used to sleep or be fine in his car set during shopping?? i guess that is my trade off...

kim- gavin is still really not on a predictable schedule.. he naps a few times a day, but i feel like i'm always on the go, so i think that is why he's not that scheduled... maybe once my older DS is back at school, we'll get beter... he usually takes a morning and afternoon nap 1 1/2- 2 hours... then he usually has a few cat naps... i used to try and keep him awake, but he sleeps better altogether even with the cat naps.. when he is awake he usually has one of his brothers in his face talking to him or trying to give him a toy... He really like his play mat (the other kids are not allowed on it)... he swings, play mat, tummy time, music... loves music... i have found that he doesn't want a pacifyer, but loves to suck my finger or his thumb, if he can find it.... if he is screeming my finger will always, well almost always work to calm him down, then he is usually ready to go to bed...

a bath always calms him... he looks drunk after his bath... but he only likes it in the big tub, not a baby bath... he likes to be all the way in the water, and float a bit... i just hold his head/neck and he is relaxing and floating..

kim- i'll say a prayer for you!!!! sleep is not too far a way!!!

tasha- how do you like all this rain... everything is so soggy... glad that aubrey is doing well... and sleeping well.... i still have to pump in the night... but i'm spacing it out and only pumping a few minutes... just for a little releif...

hope that everyone else is doing well... and the babies are all getting big... im going to post a new photo of my chubby gavin!!

colleen and tasha--thanks for your posts. It sounds like my kiddos are doing the same types of things during the day. Ellie loves to nap most of the morning, so I'm trying to get her to stay awake more. (However, she's probably napping because she's not getting a lot of sleep at night.) Braeden is taking about 2-3 SHORT naps during the day. He tends to max out at a 1/2 hour. In fact, his 1/2 hour is about up right now. We'll see if he can pass it! When they're awake, we're singing, talking, swinging. They don't like to play on their tummies much (however, they do like to sleep on their tummies--once they're already asleep!). I have two different activity mats, but neither one tickles their fancy--in fact, they both tend to scream! As for the baths, I don't have the energy to do it every other day. It's quite an ordeal to get two babies bathed and massaged. Dh tries to help, but it's really a one woman job at the sink with the baby tub. However, I might try to bath them in the big tub. You never know?

We didn't get much sleep last night. 2 hours at a time was all we could muster. Both babies are having a TON of gas. I went and bought the Enfamil for gassy babies today to see if it helps. Both kiddos have been waking up screaming from gas pain--even though we do the drops. Ugh!

I think we might be going through a growth spurt too. Even though we're 9 weeks old, we're really only 6 weeks gestational age (since they were born 3 weeks early.) So, that could be it too.

We'll try again tonight. I hope we have more luck!

By the way...I had to take a break while typing because you-know-who woke up after his 30 minutes were up!

Kim--Cole is 3.5 months old and his schedule goes as follows==wakes about 7--naps from 9-9:45--naps from 12:30-3:30--naps again from 6-6:30 and then goes to bed between 9-9:30. He has been sleeping through the night for about 3 weeks now. We do give him a bath every night about 8:30 then let him relax in his crib watching his mobile for a few mins then night time bottle and cuddle and off to bed. During the day he gets lots of action as i am daycare provider so he constantly has kids playing with him and talking to him. I hope ellie starts to sleep better for you--i know how hard that is.
By no means am i trying to sound lilke a B@@@@@ but the kids really shouldn't be sleeping on their tummys at this age. I have had so many trainings on sids for daycare and they have linked tummy sleeping to sids. Like i said by no means am i trying to be mean but just wanted you to be aware of it--i am sure you doctor has talked to you already about it.

bridget--Thanks for your info. Cole sounds like a great baby. You're very lucky to have one that has such a great schedule! I do have to clarify though...my kids NEVER sleep on their tummies at night. Sometimes during the day, when I'm RIGHT BY THEIR SIDE I let them sleep on their tummies. As an educator, I know how important it is for little ones to spend time on their tummies. So many kids these days are experiencing developmental delays, and the experts say it's because they're not on their tummies enough. Of course, I'm very aware of the SIDS risk, but when I'm right there, I can see them and ensure they're breathing. If my kids enjoyed playing at "tummy time", I'd just have them play on their tummies a lot more. But mine are just not there yet. I hope they will soon. It's hard enough to deal with twins. Sometimes we twin moms have to "break the rules" a bit in order to get the desired end result. So, for now, I'll let mine nap on their tummies every once in a while, so they will learn that being on their tummy is not a scary thing. Thanks for sharing your concerns though.

Hello All

Kim & Bridget - I spoke with my pediatrician and he said the same thing that Kim said. He explained that if the child is monitored, sleeping on their tummy is fine and that they do need plenty of time in activity on the tummies. The reason daycare providers are instructed to not allow sleeping on the tummy is due to the inability of constant monitoring of the breathing of the infant. When Makayla is put to sleep on her tummy, I am right next to her and I generally read or watch TV while checking her. I was recently told (when her reflux was diagnosed) that she would be more comfortable on her tummy (at a 30 degree angle) during her worse bouts.

As for the bottles, the jury is still out. I personally prefer to not use the bottles and I never heat the breasmillk. I give her the breastmilk cold when it is in the bottle because she will drink it slower and take in less gas. I had heard the same bottle rumors when I had my first son ten years ago and even managed to find glass bottles that I used for him. However, the glass bottles were hard to find then and are impossible to find now. I have yet to find a source in Houston.

Colleen - I am glad Gavin is doing better. Makayla is still struggling. We are going to be making more changes to her medications. We are hoping she will improve with two doses a day. Gavin does seem to be a very good size. I remember my boys getting big fast too.

Tasha - I know what you mean about returning to work. I personally was not able to do so and I resigned my job last Friday. I just knew I needed to be home to help her get better and for my own sanity! She is my last baby and my only little girl so I really want to be there as much as possible.

Casey - I hope everything works out for you and your work schedule. It is hard to decide what is right when it comes to being away from your little ones. Good Luck!

As for us, we are still trying to get Makayla where she should be. She is getting better, but she has 6 hours or so of really rough time every day. She is smiling more and more. She is also being more alert and has more time that she is not crying. I am hoping things get better with the new doses.

God bless everyone!

I am so sorry if i upset or over stepped boundaries that was not my intent. I know no one on this board would ever do anything to harm their children--i was only stating what i knew about the risks etc. Blushing and buring my head in the sand--please forgive me. We can agree to disagree.

Racheal i am glad your dd seems to be getting better with her reflux.
Kim-i hope the twins start sleeping better for you. It seems like once they hit that 3 month mark sleeping patterns seem to change. Although-i have twins in daycare and i can remember mom and dad sayng they didn't sleep through the night on a regular basis until almost 1--i certainly hope that isn't the case for you.
Sorry if i missed anyone.

Hi ladies,
A very quick post I'm afraid! You know what its like. I did post a couple of days ago but it disappeared and I didn't have time to do it again.

Things aren't too bad with us. Joshua can has slept at least one 3-4 period over the last few nights but is still really fussy inbetween. He feeds 3 times at least when awake and it takes about 2 hours for him to be satisfied and settle again, thats if I haven't already fallen asleep with him which I try so hard not to do! I do however feel really guilty as we have given in and tried the dummy. It just settles him when I've feed him 4 times and he just falls asleep on the breast so I know he's not hungry. I know they say its a bad thing to do early on but we have no problems with latching on and feeding so don't think it will do much harm. It also calms him down at bathtime/teatime when I'm trying to get DD to bed. We'll see but I do feel so bad about it, not really sure why!

Kim- Sorry the sleeping is not going so well. Really hope this stage passes quickly. Gas is such a cruel thing for babies. DD was a 1/2 hr napper, and not that braeden will be the same but unfortunatley DD carried on doing that until 11 months when she strated walking and was more exhausted! She also did it at nightime, settled down, then awoke after 30 mins then had to resettle all over again! I hope things improve for you soon. Your doing great with them and they will find a routine soon.

Coleen- so glad that Gavin is much more settled for you. Sounds like you have cracked it at last!

Rachel- Sorry to hear Makayla is till a little fussy at times, but think most babies have a fussy time of day somewhere in the 24 hours. Glad you've made a decision about work must be weight off your mind.

Tasha- Aubrey sounds like an angel. Hope things are still good for you.

Better go for feeding time before I bath DD and get her to bed, and get ready to face another night!

Take care all x

hi ther girls... my Oldest DS is off to the first day of school... he was sad that his friends got switched to a different bus... but loves school... he is excited to start!!

gavin is doing well, better everyday, and starting to fall into a schedule..

rachael- we have gavin on zantac 3x a day... i think that is what you said makayla is on.... he changes from screeming to smiling and cooing after we give him his medication... i hope that you can up hers a little... i tell you it is like night and day different with gavin on his medication... enjoy staying home with makayla..i love staying home most of the time... there are a few times i wish i could have more adult time... but it's worth it to me. i too was told on his tummy slightly inclinced would help him... he'll nap on the boppy on his tummy... with the boppy right under his chest... and i am right there on the floor with him....

casy- glad things are going well.. what is a dummy? is that a pacifyer?? do not feel bad.. do what it takes.... some babies just like to suck to sooth.. my last was that way... if it was up to him he would have been on the breast ALL the time...

bridget- hope your little one is doing well...you are lucky you have a schedule set out... we are still trying to get gavin into one... we try and make his schedule, but them he is worse...so well run with it... he is getting himself into more of some sort of schedule.... we do everything the same everyday... same time bath, and playtime ect... he's just his own man.......

kim- are you getting anymore sleep?? hope that your guys are doing better at sleeping... now that gavin is more aware of things he is doing better with tummy time, as long as there is a toy or something of interest to look at.... maybe your little ones will get there soon..

tasha- happy 3 month b-day to aubrey... how was her appointment//??

take care all

Hi girls,
Just a quick question. Any tips for babies who hate lying on their backs? Joshus just refuses to stay asleep on his back. He will wriggle about for 10 mins then start crying. He just seems to be uncomfortable. If only he could lie on his tummy!
Hope everyone is well x

have you tried on his side slightly?? there are sleep positioners or two rolled up receiving blankets one in front and one in back so he doesn't roll on his tummy or flat on his back...

i know that you are not to put kids on their tummies... but our last DS would only sleep on his tummy NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED... so at that point is it better that they do not sleep or i would put him on his tummy, when i was around... the first time he went on his tummy he slept 5 1/2 hours... to this day (he is 3 1/2 YO) he sleeps on his tummy with his bum up in the air...

Colleen - Makayla is not on Tagament, rather she is on Prevacid. The ped went with it because it is a combination of two meds. One reduces the amount of acid her stomach makes while the other helps to form a barrier to prevent the food from coming up. We do not get instant results though, it takes about an hour for it to kick in and her to calm down. As for the dosage, I actually prefer not to give her anything, but she is in so much pain that she has actual tears and it just kills me. These episodes are the only time she is like this, the rest of the time she seems to be a very happy baby.

CasyP - As for sleeping, you might have to let him cry himself to sleep. It is really hard, but a few days and he will feel it is natural. I did that with my middle one and he settled down after a few days (I was worse for the wear). I hope he sleeps better for you. Makayla like to sleep in any position, she just has to be on an angle so her stomach is not able to bring up her food. I would try the receiving blankets rolled up to keep him on his side. Also, try elevating one side of the crib. This helps their tummies and it is easy to do.

Tasha - I hope Aubrey is doing well. Wow, three months already! I was looking at my notes from Daniel and Christian's babyhood and was shocked. At two months old, Daniel weighed 13 lbs 1 oz, Christian weighed 14 lbs 6oz and poor Makayla only weighed in at 11 lbs 2 oz. Of course at birth they were Daniel, 7lbs 13 oz; Christian, 8 lbs 12 oz; and Makayla 6 lbs 15 oz. I cannot believe they were that big. I guess girls grow slower than boys all around! I hope her appointment went well.

Kim, Nance, Nicola and all others - I hope your angels are doing well.

God bless everyone!

Hi gals,

I've been checking in on you and I'm trying to keep up to date!

I started back to school yesterday. Today was my first day with students. Luckily, I'm only working halftime. so, I get to spend my mornings with Ellie and Braeden (they're best times actually--they're happy morning people!). Then I go to work from 11:30 until 3:15. Not too bad, really. It's actually a nice break and allows me to be a grown up again. Of course, I miss the babies while I"m at work, but the time tends to go quickly. My dad watches them most days, and other days they go to a nice older lady who babysits a handful of kids and lives nearby.

The only downside is, I usually miss a good nap for the babies during the day (and that's when I usually can get some housework done). so, I'm pretty busy whenever I get a moment of quiet from the babies.

I'm happy to report they're eating well, sleeping more (not through the whole night yet, though), and they're starting to be interested in playing with their activity mat and small rattles, etc. They're just growing so fast!

I wish I had time for personals, but no luck today. Maybe this weekend. Take care, and I'm enjoying your updates!

Hi Everyone,

I am so sorry I have not checked in for a few days. I have tons of posts to catch up on. Lily has been really fussy on and off for a few weeks now and it seems like I can never find the time to sit for five minutes uninterupted to post. I promise I will catch up this weekend. Until then, I hope everyone is well and your little angels are thriving.

All my love,
