Genessa-We registerd last weekend also. It was so much fun. I have no idea what kind of bottle to register for. My sister has a two yr old and a 2 month old. We have looked at stroller online alot, but not too many in person. So far we are thinking of getting the snap and go. Those are the ones with just the frame and you could snap almost any brand of carseat carriers into them. I have heard that they are a life saver for twin newborn mothers. When they are a little older, we are thinking of the double mountain buggy. It's such a big decision becasue they are all so expensive. The snap and go is not though. The frame itself is only about $120, but then of course you still have to pay for the carseat carriers. My husband did the EXACT same thing. He started to get bored and said he was starving. LOL. So we had to go, but we were there for maybe 2 hours! We still have to go back and finish. At what month are you leaving work. Do you have a desk job?

Stefanie- Congratulations on the twins!! I remember being nervous/excited about the ultrasound looking for the heartbeats. I'm sure you all will be fine!!

Sweetmomi- I'm so glad the triplets were looking great! How exciting for you! I'm sure you are so happy.

Literatriz- You are so organized and dedicated!! Look at you. That's awsome!! :) :)

Genessa-Oops, I meant to say my sister has a two yr old and a two month old, so I will have to ask her about which bottles and pacifiers to get. You were probably wondering why I told you my sister has two kids. Hahaha

Stef - my OB has me taking colace/stool softener which does give some relief. I know what you mean about the constipation. I am in so much pain from it. I am trying to drink a lot, eat prunes, apples, etc. same as you but it's tough. And nausea kicked in this week so I am lucky to get anything down.

Siou - I forget exactly but they were 160 and 170 something.

food intolerance, car seats

Post by Literatriz »

Hi,
Hope everything is as good as it gets!
I am eating the most strange foods, and getting more and more intolearnt to the common ones. Today I eat artichokes, a strong goat cheese, chick-pea salad with feta cheese, cooked pears on Jello-o and guava juice - and there are still three more meals to go (including the 3:00 a.m. visit to the kitchen).
Sweetmomi, the MS and the food intolerance can really bother us, moreover when we know we must nourish three little beans! Hope you are doing better. Are you taking iron supplements? In Brazil, they ask us to eat papaya (ripe and fresh), with some of the seeds. You may also try eating mangoes and pinneaples with the fiber. I eat two mangoes at a time! They also sell them in the dried fruit section of "organic" supermarkets. You may also sneak some fiber in by eating high fiber cereals, rice...etc.
Carisa, I hope you can give us a crash course in baby seats. I am quite overwhelmed. What are the advantages of the mountain buggies? In my head, it would make sense to have only the snap and go ones, but maybe it is not safe as they grow.
Hope every one is doing fine with their twos and threes!
Best wishes, Literatriz

I guess I will have to say good bye and good luck to all of you ladies. At this morning's OB appt (8w8d), they discovered that we lost one heartbeat. They said it will most likely reabsorb. We are very sad, but trying our best to stay positive about our survivor.

Best,

Siouxsie - I am so very sorry that you didn't hear one of your babies' heart beats, but hopefully it was b/c he/she was hiding or something. If not, I am sure that you and your DH will take much solace in your surviving baby and knowing that you are still going to be a Mommy!

Gennessa and Carisa - I have a 2 year old so I know a little about strollers and pacis and bottles. I recommend the Avent bottle. While expensive, it most mimicked the natural nipple and I had not a single problem with gas, spitting up, etc.

As for pacis, my DD still takes the Nuk from Gerber. The nice thing is that they make them in different sizes to correspond to their age so the paci can grow with them.

As for strollers, I think it is such a matter of personal preference and budget. I personally am looking at the brand new Valco Twin Latitude which boasts a lightweight frame, narrow side by side, compact fold, and versatility from newborn to toddler. The only downside i see is that you can't put in two car seats at once. Though I have yet to find a twin stroller that you can do that with other than the snap and go. The best thing to do is go online to some of the big stroller retailers and see what features they have and them try the stroller out in a store. I personally look for versatility, full seat recline, a large storage basket, snack tray, and maneuverability. good luck!

To the new Ladies, welcome and congrats on carrying TWINS - YEAHHHH!!!

Hi ladies,
siox: i'm sorry about the lost hb...that's really disappointing i can imagine. Did you have any bad symptoms, bleeding, etc at all? I was at my ob's and she listened with a doppler only, and only found 1 hb, but i'm just hoping the placenta is in the way or their so close together, it sounds like one...go in for my NT scan next week.

i'm reading ur posts about bottles, etc and its very interesting. We made our first trip to babies r us and the look on DH's face when he saw diaper prices as i was telling him that babies use up to 6-8 per day was so hilarious! I think he didnt have a clue

Anyway, is anyone planning on breastfeeding their twins or trips? DH really wants me too, plus i know in my heart its best for the babies and me (less breast, ovarian cancer, quicker weight loss...)

two heartbeats

Post by stefanie »

Hi -

we went in today to look for heartbeats and there were two healthy heartbeats, and two good sized sacs. exactly where we should be.
He actually said "what we are looking at is a normal early pregnancy"

when have I heard the word normal attached to anything to do with me trying to have a child?!!

My husband didn't get why i wasn't happier, and then four blocks out from the docs, I just started bawling w/ happiness. I think I am always so tense at the docs office. It's hard to let go.

But I'm deeply profoudly and quietly happy. This is really happening.

Siouxie -
I am so sorry. That must be devastating. I wish you a smooth and easy pregnancy from here on out.

about constipation. Doc said I could have metamucil and nurse suggested ALL BRAN. she said that when she was preg w/ twins prune juice did nothing for her, or prunes, and All Bran every morning did the trick.

Guess I'm on John Macinroe's 10 day all bran challenge. LOL.

No signs, symptoms or warnings. Just there one day, and then not.

We confirmed it this morning. It probably happened very recently – perhaps in the last 3 days. They say it’s most likely a chromosomal abnormality.

Luckily, the other twin has a strong 170 hb. There’s no “rational” reason to believe that this embryo will be effected so we are trying to be positive. Still, it hurts.

Wishing all of you the best.

Literatriz-Nope, there won't be any crash coursed from me! I'm SO overwhelmed myself! There are so many options out there as far as strollers and carseats are concerned. We want to use the sanp and go while they are still small, then once they outgrow that, we want to get the mountain buggy. I have to admit, I just love the way it looks. I still need to actually see one in a store and see how heavy it is. Alot of those double strollers are hard to pick up and put in your trunk. We have an SUV too, so lugging it up into the back may be quite hard. As far as carseats go, I still need to do some more research. We are thinking of getting the Peg Perego carseats. We will see though, they are qutie expensive, I have heard good things about them.

Siouxsie-I'm so sorry. The great news is that research shows that the remaining twin usually has a VERY good chance of being viable! You are still having a BABY!!!!!

Fullofhope2-I have seen the Avent bottle and wondered if they were good or not. Thanks for the tip! I actually just added to my registery last night the pacifiers that are made in different sizes. I think that is so cool. I didn't know they had those. Valco Twin Latitude, I will have to check that out. I'm telling you, I really want a lightweight stroller. Those double strollers are so heavy! I was wondering if there was such thing as a stroller that can attatch two carseats. I have been scowering the internet and haven't come up with one yet, besides the snap and go. That is why we are definitely getting that one for when they are very small.

Babyloves-My husband and I were checking out the prices of diapers too! It's going to be expensive for sure! We also were checking out the prices of formula-even scarier. We are going to do formula because we are using a surrogate. It will be nice having my husband help me with feedings when he can. I love the thought of that!

Stefanie-Yay for you!! I bet that was a great feeling! Hearing the word normal is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

Fullofhope2-I just looked at the Valco twin Latitude and I really like it. It reminds me of the mountain buggy that I want, but hopefully much lighter.

siox - so sorry.

Litera - I just bought dried fruit yesterday as a matter of fact. Has papaya, apricots, etc. I think the mangos here are pretty out of season now. I loved them in the summer. I will check.

I do plan to breastfeed. If I cannot keep it up, I will pump.

Hey Ladies,

Just an fyi...Target has their baby sale this week and their Medela pumps are 10% off. They never go on sale, so I purchased one after borrowing one the last pregnancy. Its a great investment even if you plan to nurse. Strollers and other baby stuff is on sale too - pretty good prices.

As for carseats, I have the Graco Safeseat and as of a couple of years ago the Snugride and Safeseat got the best awards from Baby Bargains. I loved it and will buy another one this time around. I have friends who have the Peg Perego carseats and rave about them as well. I think they are very comparable though the Graco is a bit cheaper.

I spoke to my nurse today re: the constipation and she advised to stick with Metamucil or Colase (sp?). I tried natural remedies such as prunes and just feel worse. So, I am off to the drugstore.

Also, I still feel very bloated from all the hormones and was just wondering when you start showing with twins. I am sure that every body is different but am wondering what the average is. I started to show at 12 weeks with my first pregnancy.

Carisa= I think I am going to try to talk DH into the snap and go, as well as the Valco for later. We'll see how far I can get, especially when their combined price tag is $600!!!

I too plan to breastfeed and hope that both babies will latch on. Of course, I will have my pump as backup if one or both doesn't....

Babyloves - As for diapers, I buy mine at Costco and Sams Club and find they have the best prices. I have friends who swear by diapers.com for saving them money....

Stefanie - Congrats to you - what an exciting and relieving feeling...finally!!!

Siouxsie - I hope that you are doing better today and that each day brings you more peace and closer to your surviving baby.

I pray that we all continue to have healthy thriving pregnancies!

financial hardship

Post by Literatriz »

HI all,
Hope everyone is doing fine this weekend. Our little bellies are starting to show aren't they? I don't care if it is hormones, gas or a growing uterus: I dress pregnant and that makes me happy as happy can be! I didn't fit on any of my buttonned and zippered stuff anyways :)
I placed a "do not touch" sing on my bra. Bubbies are bigger and plummier but...so sensitive! I may change the sign to "be kind" later on.
Thank you all for the shared info on car seats. We need to geat ready$$$$!
Carissa, I have checked the prices and the ecological problems of diapers and decided to go 100% cotton. I did this long time ago, with my older children and it worked very well. I didn't even had the luxury of a dryer.
I may be cheaper, better for the baby skin and it won't clog the landfills for three centuries. I am open to other ideas but for now that is what we are considerning more seriuosly.

Dear Siouxie, I hope the joy of a healthy heartbeat helps you and DH to heal the sadness left by the little seed that could not grow healthy.

As of milk...I have two friends who fed their babies with soy milk. One was lactose intolerant and the other had serious hemophilia. They are big and tall boys today. So much cheaper, home-made...When I think about how strong is the lobby of formula and dairy commodities, I see all recommendation for formulas with extreme caution. Pasteurized goat milk can be added to the diet as well, but we need to shop for nutricionists and pediatrician who are not aligned with the formula makers. Let's remember that they didn't hesitate to sell formula to developing countries and poor women (through WIC programs) in the US, even giving samples away at hospitals - openly discouraging breastfeeding and other healthier alternatives. I don't trust them a bit.
Adding it all, it may be more economic to opt for old-fashioned organic!
Wishing you well,
Literatriz
