Help me understand-----
I did read on the Follistim 900 pkg and saw were there was 75 extra. Threw away the 600 pkg before reading. Started with the 600 first. So when I dialed up 150 this am on what should have been an empty cartriage,I figured it would stop at 75, it did not it says i got 150. Is this possible??? Would there be an extra 150? It was a 600iu to start 300 on sat 300 on sun, therefor empty except for the extra, dont the pens stop at the number you still need from the next cartriage???

PS stim on my stimming sisters.... ice helps.

Hi all,

New member here - am cycling this month and through February. Can I join in the discussion? Just in suppression stage. It's my 3 IVF - Try 1 resulted in a pregnancy and m/s at 8.5 weeks. Try 2 was an FET, failed. This is our 3rd try, a fresh cycle.

I'm having a hard time feeling positive and hopeful for this one -- anyone else who is on their 3rd or 4th try have any advise for getting my positive vibe back on?

AFM -- My wait is going OK. Actually, I'm not thinking about my beta much. I've sorta resolved that I have a low chance of success with this one, so a positive will be a surprise if it's there. DH does not want me to POAS. And to tell you the truth, neither do I. According to Kaite's chart, there won't be measurable HCG until day of beta anyway. A negative won't be indicative of anything and will just get me down. I'd like to prolong the feeling of "maybe" as long as I can I guess. I realize a positive isn't likely to be a false positive, but I can wait for the real beta if that's the case too.

P.S. I've found that there's about 100 units of extra Follistim in each size cartrige. Sooo... if you don't mind sticking yourself an extra time, then purchase the 300 size to maxmize the amount you get. For instance, I got a total of 1000 out of a 900 cartridge but 400 out of a 300 cartridge. Since the price of a 300 was exactly 1/3 of a 900, I ended up with 200 unit's more by doing it that way (1200 vs 1000 total)! Liquid gold it is!

I don't have the box anymore so I can't tell you exactly what is in there. Looking online at a package insert it appears to me that there may be only 50 extra per a pen, but it seems like when I had the sample there was more than that. I know with the Follistim there is about 130 iu's left on the 900. I would call your office and ask them if your not sure. Again, my office covered this with me so that I could use every drop! Anyways, good luck and I hope the stimming is going well! Today will be day 3 of stims and right now my ER is set just as the week of the 18th!

msmac Your welcome. Let us know what your nurse said. I had a little med mishap myself over the weekend. It was my dh's b-day on Saturday and we went out to celebrate. So, my first shot was being done in a bathroom at the movie theater! LOL Anyways, my pen didn't want to prime and then I pulled the stem out too far with out being on the right dose. I couldn't get it to turn to 300 iu either. I was so stressed. My poor dh is standing in the (family) bathroom with me trying to help but I was in panic mode. He says well next time you should have a spare with you!! I almost killed him. He recovered with offering to go home and get a new one, but he pulled it together by getting the pen to the correct dose. At that point I went for it, but wasn't even sure if I was getting the right amount. He was freaked that we were overdosing me and my ovaries were going to spill out of me right there at the movies! It was totally stressful, and now funny. All turned out ok. I got the meds at the correct dose and went home and primed my next pen. My second round went much better. Good luck with your SnS tomorrow and your right you'll be preggo soon and June will be here before you know it!

hope644 Your DSS will be thrilled with the news when your ready to share! Hopefully you got everything cleared up and have your BCP now.

turtle0619 Your right waiting for the phone calls suck! My RE's office uses an automated system until your trigger shot then you get a live call. Your supposed to wait until after 4 pm to check your messages but I always start calling early. The other day I checked it and got my message way early, but that led to a live call changing the info and telling me not to check the system so early!!!

claud662 Well when you start your first big med like Lupron you feel like your definately on your way! At least for me that was my mark, Saturday was like WOW, I am doing this!

babyhopes Congrats on the trigger! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow for your ER! Praying for lots of mature eggs and lots of fertilization!

AFM: Well I started my stims on Saturday. I went in this morning for my SnS and after only 2 days of stims we have about 14 follies so far!?!?! I can't believe that there is such a response after 2 days but that's what we got. There were 8 on the Right and 6 on the Left. The NP said she thought there were more on the left but because that's my stubborn side that was the best she could do for today. I wasn't complaining. It wasn't quite as painful this time either. I don't know if she was gentler than the last guy, or if things have dropped some already, but it was tolerable. Of course AF came to visit yesterday AM, so between the cramps from that and the pressing on my left ovary that was the worse of it. I am now just waiting on my update for meds right now and the next SnS will be either Wednesday or Thursday depending on the b/w today! My dh is so cute. He is determined to have twin boys who are currently nicknamed Rip and Cord. So every night he talks to my ovaries telling them what they need to do to help the boys make it to the world! LOL Totally stupid, but cute and must be working as those 14 follies show!

well, i think i just deleted my post accidentally. crap. here's my quick update: went to my RE this AM and decided we're going to sacrifice one of the dominant follies. he's ready to go now, but there's another five or so that will be ready in 2 more days, so we're going to wait and see what that batch brings. that means my trigger will probably be Wed, and my ER will prob be Friday, 1/15.

as for my follie count, 6 is not very encouraging (my last IVF only retrieved 4 eggs from about 10 follies), but we only need 1, right? i just hope these other little ones grow in the next two days. looking forward to acupuncture tonight.

lou: two words: American Idol. the premiere tomorrow night should help distract you during the remainder of your WW.

jenice: though DH and I don't have kids, I often kick myself for putting too much focus on my infertility. i don't want to look back on my early 30's as a time of just being consumed by anger and frustration. it's not fair to my marriage, or me. i have to remind myself how to live to the fullest with what i have today (and mostly that means long, indulgent dinners with friends).

turtle: yes, the india trip is a bit of bad timing if i end up preggers. but as per my note above about 'living', DH and I decided not to plan this trip (my first in Asia - we love to travel) around a hypothetical baby. we just went for it. that said, if i'm preggers, i have no idea how i'll avoid getting sick. indian food i love and can handle, it's the bacteria you have to watch out for. i'll change the subject now!

Claudia - Yay for Lupron! Those are so quick and easy compared to the rest. I just hate the burning sensation after the inj and the night sweats. But, if I remember correctly...it gives you headaches? Either way I hope all is well with you!

Babyhopes - How was your trigger? Mine burned and my belly is still tender where I gave the inj, but I'm glad this is moving on to the next phase!

Franny - How did your appt go? Thinking of you & waiting patiently!

RLK - I can't believe your transfer is Friday! That came out of nowhere. Drained 3 times? That doesn't sound like fun. Were you pregnant when you got it so bad?

Katie - That is a funny story about your dogs! I get in the bath with my two little ones and our Boxer takes a shower with DH...easy way out. RE doesn't really seem too concerned with my numbers OR he's trying not to freak me out. I don't really know which one!

Blessed - It is so exciting that you got your calendar! I loved that part and, like many of the other women here, I read it a million times a day. Full steam ahead!

Hope - That is not good that they didn't call in your RX for BCPs. I got a sample from my OB/GYN office once I found out what RE had prescribed for my BCPs. One more way to get free meds!

Lou - I'm thinking of you all the time and praying for your BFP! I can't wait to hear your results!!!

Samgarkay - Wow 14 follies after 2 days? That's great! BFP in your future!

HMS - I am dying for American Idol!! I love it so much and it premieres tomorrow, when I'll be banned to my bed so it's perfect timing! Your ER is coming up so fast...only 3 days (because you shouldn't count today or the day of IMO)

Katie- I think I ruin your theory - I was watching football all weekend myself! I posted in between the Sunday games.

misocial - Yes - tonight is my third day of stims. It sounds like we're on the same protocol, except I do 350 of Follistim and 1 menopur per day. I've got my next SnS on Wednesday as well! For the extra Follistem, the pen will stop when it runs out of liquid in the cartridge, even if you dial it up higher, so you did get your full dose. If there had only been 100 left in it, for example, you wouldn't have been able to push it all the way, and it would have still read "50" on the dial.

It sounds like a bunch of us are all on the same day of stims (samgarkay, msmac, also if I've got it right?)

hope644 and dodo - I wish my beta were coming up, I was just looking forward to hearing about Lou! My beta probably won't be until the first couple days of Feb. I know what you mean about the pharmacists. The first time I had a Rx for estradiol (for my FET), the pharmacist asked, "are you sure this is what you were getting? I just want to be sure I heard the dr. right." I guess estradiol is mostly prescribed for as post-menopausal hormonal therapy.

hms - What a great philosophy you have - I like that you are going on living instead of planning everything around IVF. A trip to India sounds wonderful - I'm so envious!

Welcome Merri! This is my 4th try as well, and I have been feeling pretty defeated. This board is actually the best medicine I have for staying positive! It's hard to feel negative around these girls.

Gi - Yes, I'd be ready to defect to Canada for paid leave, if it weren't so cold there...

AFM - still stimming - and I'll be darned if I didn't bruise myself AGAIN on my second day of stims. I was so good at this last summer, but this time I can't seem to stick myself in the stomach without hitting a blood vessel. Hearing others stories, I guess I'm lucky I never had too much bloating - probably because I'm a pretty average responder for my age, about 10-12 follies each time.
