Not the Christmas Spirit!

Post by Fingers crossed »

Need some advice on this one girls..

My work have mostly been supportive of my IVF (I have done 5 cycles this year whilst in this company) but I have sensed that each time has been a little less exciting and more of a problem for them!! I think that you would have experienced the same.

I got a BFP on the 1st Nov and my consultant signed me off work for 2 weeks with cramping...I am due to go back this Thursday. I had a call from work this morning to say that they are coping fine with out me (made me feel great!) and that if I want I can stay off until scan date 23rd) as long as I got a dr's note...of course I would be stupid not to take them up on the offer as the less I can do at the moment the better..so off I went to see the doctor (had appointment already luckily!) and got a note to sign me off until 25th!!

I took this straight off to work and when I handed it to my boss she looked at me and said 'feeling sick yet?' and then went on about not knowing how to claim SSP..and then wait for it...

As I am 'sick' my hubby and I are no longer able to go to the Christmas party on the 23rd November!..well I was speechless! We were off to see a show in London and have a meal out so would be fine for me to go along...I have been with the company since 2004 and I am actually or..rather was..very good friends with the owners out of work..but now I feel ready to tell them to stick the job where the sun don't shine!

I even offered to pay for our tickets and her answer was 'no we will either cancel them or try and get some other people to come along'

Not festive is it!!..nothing like 'congratulations!'

a very hurt..upset..and shocked Fingers Crossed!

What would you do? Do you think they are being fair?

Pregnancy Discrimination

Post by MidwifeMom »

Fingers Crossed,
Of course it is unfair and extremely insensitive. I have seen many patients myself subjected to pregnancy discrimination and it is down right mean and hateful! I would evaluate your situation and ask yourself hopw long you plan on staying in this job, etc. If you will be quitting after the pregnancy then I would try to emotionally disconnect and say "Screw them." If this is a job you need to keep and will be there longterm then you may need to make a lot more effort. I would let the Christmas party thing go, even though your feelings are really hurt. Maybe say something about you really apprecaite how supportive they have been and it is nice to know they extended you the leave. point out you are disappointed about the Christmas Party but wnat to honor there wishes. I would also tell them you conside ryourself part of the work family there and would offer support to others going through transitional life events.
Regardless, rejoice this holiday, you have a lot to celebrate and let their humbug attitude fo to London with all of them!!!

Michele
