Low Fluid

Went for an U/S at 20 weeks and they said my fluid looked a little low. It measured 8.9cm. They asked that I drink at least a gallon of water a day and come back in 2 weeks to get retested. When I want back yesterday @ 21 weeks 5 days, they said that it is now measuring 8.4 cm. The US technician said that when it goes below 8cm, they start to worry. I was crying right there in the docs office. I'm very worried for my little girl. They are sending me to a Maternal Fetal Medicine Doctor on Thursday to have him look at the baby's kidneys and urinary tract and make sure it is developing OK.

I'm also worried about all of the ultrasound exposure my baby is getting. Am I just worrying too much and making this worse. I feel like a basket case.

Please pray for my little Adriana Kay. She is my miracle baby and I would be devastated if anything happened to her.

I had to post on seeing this as I suffered from the same problem of low amniotic fluid.
I was on close to 6litres of water- juice-soups per day.I worried all the time.
Please know that they can take care of it.
At 32 weeks I was also put on drips to increase my fluid levels- my levels would always be around 9 and would increase once I got the iv fluid.
make sure you rest as much as possible and drink up- yes, there will be many trips to the loo, but all for a good cause.

I think the doctors can check if you are leaking fluid.They did so with me, but found no evidence of it- nothing apparent that is - but fluid was going out all the same.
I know this cant stop you worrying, but at least you can know that there was a successful outcome.
I was told to come in to be induced when my levels went down to 7 despite my iv fluid and my usual 5l of water- I was past 38 weeks then.

As far as ultrasounds went, I had one evryweek to check on water levels,on growth etc as I was spotting in my first tri, and my cervix seemed to be opening up prematurely as well..I dont thing Ultrasounds hurt, but my technician did tell me to restrict use of the laqptop, or desktop to the bare minimum( i still did log on for about 2 hours every day though)

I dont know much about fluid, I dont know much about pregnancy... But I will pray for your litlle girl and pray for you

i too had low fluid with my last pregnancy... it was down to about 7.... i was put on rest and told to drink as much as much as i could.... it was about the 8-9 range for the rest of the pregnancy and i now have a healthy 2 1/2 boy!! take it easy, and drink drink drink....
