Extremely Premature

Post by PebblesUK »

Hello,

Has any one else had a very premature baby or know any one who may be able to help me?

Ellie was born on the 11 December at 26 + 4 weeks. I'm finding things really difficult at the moment. She is doing well considering her prematurity but we are still a long way from being "out of the woods".

Every day I wake up not knowing if our little girl will make it through the day. The two ladies I shared the ward with both lost their babies within 24 hours of each other (they were 25 week babies), they both developed nec. Ellie got this a few days after and it was awful. She surprised all the doctors and recovered from it.

She has been nil by mouth since Friday due to a very distended belly but today they are going to reintroduce her feeds at 1ml every 4 hours. She lost 50g over the weekend which is quite a lot as she only weighed 890g at birth. But she has put on 30g of that so things are looking up.

She definately seems to be a little fighter but it's just so hard as things can change in a matter of moments. I am treasuring every day we have with her and I'm not being pesimistic just realistic. People around me don't understand (and they wouldn't), they seem to think that every day she will get stronger but that's not the case with premature babies.

I can't talk about her without crying that's why I'm asking via the computer. You can't see or hear the tears! I'm sure there's a support group locally to me but I'm not ready to talk. I am still in shock that she is here already and also the speed in which it all happened.

Any tips on how to cope with these days would be mostly appreciated.

Many thanks

Jo

I really do not know what to say...... this is so pants for you all, I have been watching your progress and pray that all will be well it must be horrific for you all but hey Ellie has done so well so far I am sure behind those tears there is a silver lining you just can't see it yet....you will still be in shock and that little fighter you have bought into this world needs a strong Mummy and thats exacty what you are, it is good to cry you must release your fears and tears, you will look back in a years time and think wow look at our beautiful big girl! I have never experienced what you are going through although I have cried a lot these past few weeks!!! I know it isn't quite the same but my youngest twin Godkids were born at 28 weeks and contracted MRSA and spent months in hospital they will be 5 in a fortnight and the tallest one of the two is now the tallest one in their class! we would never of thought it 5 years ago, miracles do happen all the time sometimes we just have to let it in and beieve, Ellie WILL make it, stay strong, you can get through this, all of you.........

Hi, i have been reading ur posts on the pregnant after treatment board but felt that i shouldnt 'but' in. I have also seen her wee pics on the photoshop - she is a stunner hun, and she is strong - she has showed all will so far to keep going. I cant imagaine how hard it is for u and DH right now, but please know that Ellie is in our prayers every day and night. She is a beautiful baby girl and i know u are proud to be her mummy.
Every little step counts, stay storong and please keep us updated ...

Jo

same as becky i have been following your progess on the other thread and saw the gorgeous pics on photobucket. your post brought tears to my eyes and gave me goosebumps and just wanted to say that i will be praying really hard for you. i'm not particularly religious but i will send get-better-vibes to you and ellie. its amazing though that she survived what the other two babies didnt, which i think shows a lot for her fighting little personality.

the best of luck and keep us informed. will be thinking of you.
