Pessaries or Gel

Post by TJ »

Hello everyone

Just reading over the history of postings, most people seem to have used the pessaries, on our 1st IVF i used pessaries and on the 2nd the gel, (neither worked) I asked the consultant what was the difference between them and he said not a lot, other than the cost (more expensive) and the gel isnt as messy... Has anyone used the gel? Wanted to get your girlie advice!!

TJ x

Pessaries or Gel

Yeah it was in an applicator form called "crinone" - 8% progesterone gel... when I went back 2nd time he asked how i got on with pessaries and I said yuk, he said try the gel, its more expensive (dont know how much it is now, the drugs all rolled into one, and whats pounds difference when you are talking about the amount of money the drugs cost anyway), I found the gel to be much more user friendly and its only once a day jobbie (not twice and wait 20 mins)... the only thing was that was different, and scared me, was the fact that when af arrived a clump of the stuff came with it and gave me such a fright, i was hysterical because i wasnt sure what it was... later was told it could've been that!

I Suppose I would go for that again on my next cycle....

Take care, good luck

TJ x

[Edited by TJ on 02-Jul-03 20:48]

Pessaries or Gel

Post by Sarah30 »

Hi TJ

I used the Gel (Crinone 8%) and found it much nicer to use than the pessary gross things. My clinic said they were more easily absorbed than the pessaries but are £3 per stick (I was on 2 per day) but I went to my GP and asked if they would pay for them as it was pregnancy support not IVF and they agreed to they got me a 3 month supply to see me through to 12 weeks.

I'm now 14 weeks pregnant with Twins yippppeeeeeeeeeeee

Sarah x
