At home insemination with donor

Post by Tammy Wondra »

Hi everyone! My dh and I are thinking about going with donor and thinking about doing at home insemination and I'm looking to get as much information as possible and anxious to hear from people who have done this. Specfically, I'd like to know:

1. How many cycles have you done and how many did it take to get pregnant?
2. I've heard of IUI sperm and ICI sperm--what's the difference and is one better than the other?
3. Did you have your husband/partner help?
4. How many vials did you use per cycle?
5. What is the "right" way to do it? (May seem like a stupid question, but wondering if there are "tricks" so to speak).
6. When do you order the sperm according to your cycle? (don't want to order too late/too early).

Maybe I'm freaking out and thinking too much :) , but wanting to get as much info as possible before we go with this and decide this is the right way for us. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!!

IUI sperm and ICI sperm are diferent as the IUI sperm is washed so no infections present, IT's not in the semen.
ICI sperm goes into the Cervix so it's not washed!! It has semen.

I am guessing that u r purchasing privately, for home insem, they recommend ici sperm.

I have had 5 iuis with washed sperm, and so far not pregnant. I had the insems done at a clinic, as Home insem, isn't that easy, and honestly I dont know much about it, but i have read on many web site about it, mainly lesbian couples use it, and in USA it's very popular. In the UK not so popular to do it at home!!

My dh did help, and supported me all the way, but some times wasn;t always there, it's really not nessecary!!

Dont know the right way to do it, but would imagine a turkey baster, comes to mind!!!

Are u in hte USA??? as if you there are 100's of clinics who can help and answer your Q's....There r also 100's of web sites on this too.

All the best x x
