1st IVF transfer yesterday...on rest!

Post by kim0907 »

Hi everyone-

My name is Kim and I'm a 37 year old mom from IL. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the last 3 years. I have one son who is 5 and had a miscarriage at 11 weeks in 2004. We have been unable to concieve naturally since then.

I began seeking infertility treatment last summer and have no known cause for secondary infertility. I went through two Clomid IUI cyles and one gonal F medicated IUI cycle with no luck.

This cycle we decided to move forward with IVF. I had my retrieval on Tuesday and the Dr retrieved 8 eggs. He did 3 traditional IVF and non fertilized. He did 5 with ICSI and 4 fertilized. So, we did a two day transfer and yesterday he transfered 3 (we chose not to have 4, but I'm not sure what happens to the 4th).

Currently I am on bedrest for 48 hours. It is much harder to do this than when I was pregnant. I'm pretty self sufficent, so it is very hard for me to ask for help.

Anyway, glad to be here! I look forward to "meeting" you all.

Hi Kim,

my names Kerry, I'm from england and had my transfer 9 days ago and I can tell you it is hard going. Try to stay positive, I know I am.

I also had clomid for 6 months with no success, I have no children but keeping my fingers crossed.

You should keep in touch with friends, it does good to have them around and take your mind of it all as unfortunately it is all you focus on.

Take care and good luck.

Hi Kim -

I too have a 5 year old and have been trying to conceive a healthy baby for three years (I miscarried in June, 2004 and had to terminate in May, 2005). I had three failed IUI's this fall/winter and will have my first IVF next week sometime. Best of luck to you. It's nice to see someone else trying that has a 5 year old already. This is NOT how I thought my family would be (was hoping for three years apart, now it will be 6 if I conceive soon) but I know our plans are not really our own. I'll say a prayer for you.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Rest ends tonight. I've been incredibly crampy, which I am not sure if its good or bad. I'm still planning on taking it easy through Monday as much as I can.

How long are/were you all asked to rest without doing anything but going to the bathroom and taking a short shower? Besides no intercourse were there any other restrictions?
