Hpt

Post by kim0907 »

I broke down and took a hpt a little while ago (FRER). It was negative. I had my retrieval on 2/13 and my transfer of 3 embryos on 2/15. I am scheduled to have my first beta on Monday. I have been cramping mildly and have had light brown mucousy type discharge on and off for the last 12 hours. My RE doubled my progestrone shots to 3cc/day and my estrace pills to 2x a day after putting me on them on Wed because my progestrone and Estradiol were both low.

I should be able to get a positive HPT by now (10 days post retrieval and 8 days post transfer), shouldn't I? I should have waited for the beta on Monday, but just couldn't take the wait anymore.

Thanks for all you guys help and advice, I really appreciate it.

Hi Kim

Its too early!!
If you had a high level of HCG then yes, it may have already shown up, but a negative test at this stage doesnt mean you are not pregnant.
If I had had a HPT on the day of my official test (12 dys post transfer) it would have been negative! (My HCG was slightly lower than normal, but I was still pregnant!). I know its not easy to wait, but you must wait until your real test date. Cramping (I had this - same as AF pains) and discharge can also happen during pregnancy by the way.

Good luck!
Love kim

The HPT's are the devil!!!! Avoid at all cost!!! I took two and they were both BFN although I was PG! Scared the heck out of me! It's so hard to wait but I had pretty high beta levels and mine still didn't show up.

AVOID IF YOU CAN HELP YOURSELF!!!!!!!!! :D

A positive result at that point would be almost impossible. If your embryos implanted in your endometrium, it would have occurred around Feb 20 or Feb 21. No way an HPT is going to pick that up on Feb 22 or Feb 23. The embryos are tiny, and it takes awhile for the hCG they manufacture to accumulate enough to be detected.

Trying to use the less sensitive HPT before the more sensitive blood test is bound to lead to false readings. They get reported all the time here. Must be the most common question. Your test was so early, the blood test might not have picked it up. The HPT had no chance.

Anyway, that result means nothing at all. Don't be discouraged by it. Give it more time.
