Should DH come to ET?

Post by Kat »

Hi, thought I'd throw this open to all -

I have ET tomorrow.
I believe the least stressful option is for me to drive myself there and back and then on to acupuncture, which I am having afterwards. Why is it people have DH drive them? If it is to do with the actual driving what is the difference between the passenger seat and the driver's seat? Nothing, I imagine.

My alternatives are :
1.Have DH drive me around and spend the morning worrying he is getting bored and would rather be working
2.Get a cab and think about the unnecessary £££s and worry about the logistics of getting pick ups & drop offs timed right
3.Drive myself calmly and in my own little world

Being there on my own does not worry me in the slightest and DH would rather not have to get up early. We are not a 'couply' couple, infact we haven't been to the clinic together at all this cycle...

Anyway - what do you think ladies?

Well, Kat in that case I think if your'e not a couply couple do it yourself!!!
sounds like reading between the lines you'd rather do it alone!!!

I am taking Dh with me for EC and ET.... he really want to be there, but then We are a couply couple!!!!

Good luck!!!

Hi Kat,
My DH will be coming to ET with me. He is quiet involved with the whole cycle but does back away when i am moody, sad or depressed he just doesn't know what to do which is quiet offen due to my hormones(hormones there funny things aren't they) and to this is our first cycle so that could be the difference. If we need another cycle he may be different. Also he makes me feel safe or i think i would like someone in there for the first time even a good friend. I think its a day to have a little celebration, i know it may not go as we like but i think its a celebration to even get to that stage.
Good luck Kat hope you get a BFP.

Kat - at my clinic it's a requirement that you have someone drive you. You'll be loopy from the drugs.

they said no drugs for et for me- are there drugs for et?

DH is still coming with me today- but we're a "couply couple" he's been to every u/s (except for one) and given me every shot (except for 2). I like him involved and that way it seems like he's going through all this too- not just me.

good luck Kat!

Hi, as its ET you are fine to drive, if you are happy on your own go for it.
it sounds like you will be happier alone, you have to do what is best for yourselves.
Good luck.

My DH wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else at that moment other them holding my hand and giving me encouragement to remain calm. This is OUR baby and he wanted to take part in everything form the first visit to the cuddling after birth.

Good luck. You should do whatevr keeps you less stressed out.

My DH did come with me to ET - but, i drove there with my daughter, and met him there as he works close to the clinic. Afterwards, he went back to work in his car, and i drove myself and my daughter home in my car. Its whatever YOU want to do, whatever you feel comfortable with. AS long as you are both happy as a couple to go by yourself, then as far as im concerned - thats fine :D You wont need no drugs, its just like having a smear, a lot more emotional mind you lol

I wish you well on ur 2ww - let us know when u get ur BFP :D

A good cross section of replies, thankyou ladies.
Interesting what you say, N77, about this being your first cycle. This is my eight cycle and will be 4th ET, so maybe it doesn't feel as significant to me any more. I see that having had EC I could be a bit woozy for a few days but I am using donor eggs so I have not had EC.
Anyway, still leaning towards driving myself ....

Kat, if YOU feel fine about it and it certainly sounds like you do, go for it on your own. Driving yourself around is OK for ET. Enjoy bringing your little embies home!
I felt a bit dizzy afterwards because, with a session of acu before and after ET, I had been lying down for about 2 hours by the time I left the clinic. Anyway, we have an hour’s drive each way, partially on the motorway, so I was glad to have a chauffeur. DH has been with me on all ECs, ETs and nearly all scan appointments. I actually found ET a very emotional part of the cycle. For me it was important to have his support and helped me stay calmer. I don’t think he would have missed it for anything either. But that’s just the way we are.

I would do whatever you both feel happy about and is least stressful.
Sending you lots of relaxing vibes and the very best wishes for a BFP!!!

I decided to call the clinic in the end - they said no reason not to drve myself. The lady I spoke to said they don't use any sedatives, which implied that some places do use them (although nowhere I have been) so perhaps that's why some people are advised not to drive

You can drive youself for the transfer there are no drugs that they give you at least for me there wasn't. It's for the retrieval that they will not allow you to drive yourself. DH went with me both times because he wanted to be there and they do show you what their during on the monitor and gave me a print of the ultrasound. For us, it was emotional.

Best of Luck!
