35-40% chance

Post by Hopeful at 40 »

My RE MD just told me, after some extensive testing, that I have a 35-40% chance of conceiving. I can't help but be discouraged... so, I'm turning to you for some encouragement. I keep telling myself that they are good odds -- but it seems so bleak.
3 attempts at IVF
1st attempt cancelled due to poor response
2nd attempt resulted 1 egg fertilized
3rd attempt, changed clinics, 9 mature eggs, 9 fertilized, 5 transfered at Day 3, pregnant!

Those are excellent odds, even though they sound poor.

We were told 15-20% chance even though we are both healthy, there was no male factor at all, and the only real problem seems to be my wife's age (43), and that she suffers from partically blocked tubes.

BFN for us yesterday morning :(

I think your news is excellent though. You should be encouraged with those odds!!

I think those are pretty normal stats for IVF. We were told the same 35-40 % chance it would work the first round--our factory is my tubes they are blocked. We decided 35-40% was more of chance then 0% with the old fashion way so we went for it. Took us a year to save the money and had to borrow the rest---we BFP the first round and i am due in 4 1/2 weeks with our miracle son. Moral of the story don't give up==if you can afford IVF go it--if you can't save up for or borrow and then go for it. Wishing you the best of luck. Bridget

I was given a 13% chance. My consultant made this sound so much better when he said imagine there is a wall of 100 bricks and 13 were removed -it makes quite a difference to that wall.

Oh, I have a beautiful 21 month son. So don't worry about statistics.

Considering age those are very high odds........I'd go for it. Adoption is often 20-30,000 and donor eggs are not cheap. Good luck with your decision.

I would keep trying 35-40% chance is what they have been telling me since 34 years old. Nobody, really has more than a 50% chance....my RE jumped from 40% to 60% but not bfp yet.
