Baby kicks?

Post by Lis »

Hi just wondering when I should start to feel my little one kick? I have read that its around 17-18wks but in another book its said it would be unusual to feel anything before 20 wks. I am 17.5 wks and don't think I have felt anything yet. This is my first pregnancy. I know this is probably not unusual but I am so desperate to feel that first kick and getting a little tiny bit anxious!

Advice / stories from other 2nd / 3rd trimester ladies would be welcome!

I didn't feel anything until about 20 weeks, but it was really more like 22 weeks before I was felt them move regularly. I started to worry because I thought I should feel something earlier, but my dr said first time moms usually don't notice movement until 20 weeks or so.

I've just started to feel her move in the last few days and I'm around 19 weeks (it says 20 on my ticker, but there's been some confusion on how far along I really am). Right now, it's just a really light little feeling...in fact, I wasn't even sure it was her but have decided in the last two days that it has to be. It's pretty cool!

My doctor said I realistically might not feel any movement until 22 weeks since this is my first pregnancy. So don't panic! I'd guess any time in the next month you'll be feeling those kicks!

I have been feeling the flutters/movements for about 3 weeks now but no solid kicks yet. They seem to react to noise. When I was at my brothers party on Saturday night they moved like crazy to the music. My midwife told me it was because they are quite big babies. My tummy measured the equivalent of 5.5 month singleton pregnancy. I look like I swallowed a football..boy they are seriously going to run out of space in there if they keep growing like this. I have no hips to carry them sideways so the only way is out front. I have a feeling they will be like my dad and brothers which are all above 6ft 3 to 6ft 6. I'm only 5'3 and weigh 128lbs.

My sister that had identical twin girls only felt hers at 23 weeks so its individual to pregnancy and how much room they have in there. Don't worry, you're normal.

Good Morning.

I did not start feeling even little flutters until around 24 weeks and it was not until I hit 28/29 weeks did I start feeling stronger movements. I was so worried that I worked myself up into a nice little panic. But now I am 31W 3D and the movements have been much more frequent. I think it is different for everyone and depends on how big you and your baby are. If you are concerned speak to your Dr. As long as the heartbeat is strong I do not think you need to worry (I know, easier said than done).

All my best,
Nancy

Hi Lis-darling- my IUI buddy!

Don't worry about the kicks...I didn't really feel my two until 20-21 weeks. I felt some bubbling, like gas, but just dismissed it as such, now in hindsight it may have been them starting to move. Now they kick me all the time and its such a comforting feeling.

You'll get there soon enough. Much love to you and your DH!

19-20 weeks. I did not know what it was in the begining. So, I would say it takes longer to understand what it is if this is your first pregnancy.

Thankyou so much everyone for your replies. Since I posted I have started feeling movement and kicks! It started last week in the mornings, very light, almost like gas/wind!! I realise now that I also felt it once or twic very faintly in weeks 16 and 17. On Tuesday the little one was going crazy and I felt like I could feel everything however I've not felt it so much in the last couple of days which, as you can imagine, has got me thinking all sorts! However I've just read in a good book that at this early stage you don't feel continous movement so I will have to learn to chill out!!

Macca wow that's amazing you've felt them move so early! Are you afraid of how big they're going to become? What a nice feeling - you'll either have stunning leggy supermodels or strapping handsome rugby players!, tee hee!

Em so nice to hear from you. an't believe you are 31 weeks already. How are you keeping?? I remember seeing a post when you were about 17 weeks and that seems like just a few days ago. It makes it feel like my own pregnancy will probably whizz by too!

Thanks again for everyone's replies xxx

Em its so nice that you are so near motherhood - I'm excited for you! Today we went out looking at prams and it makes it all so real and close! I will be watching the boards for your little arrivals. All the very best xxx

Lisa - just remember they've got to come out some how so there's no point in stressing yourself over it! That's what I am trying to tell myself anyhow! I'm sure it'll be different when I'm in my 3rd tri and panicing!

As for the movement, have felt my little one all day yesterday and today, def feeling it a wee bit stronger as the days go past. Still such a lovely surreal feeling!
