Categorized as High Risk Pregnancy...

Post by AnaLovesJoe »

Hi Everyone!
Just thought I'd give an update on my pregnancy. It's going great... well, SORT of! LOL

I hardly have had any morning sickness. NEVER threw up. Just felt VERY sleepy and tired up till a few weeks ago. Now I have my energy back and can do more things around the house. THANK GAWD. =)

I have however been categorized as a High Risk Pregnancy. See, I have PKD [Policystic Kidney Disease] which affects your kidneys and eventually affects your blood pressure. Well, I developed Hypertension BEFORE I got pregnant. So it's become a concern to my docs now. I just got put on medication [ADALAT to be exact] to keep it under control. I think it's helped some. So now I'm going in for my 16 week appointment one week early. I guess now that I'm HIGH RISK they want to monitor me more closely? I have my next appointment this Friday. I hope we get another ultrasound done. I want to see the baby again! =)

Anyway... the medication started giving me headaches.. I think. It's kind of hard to tell if it's from the pregnancy, my blood pressure or the medication! And I'm so SO nervous about developing Preclampsya, although I know the medication is to prevent me from developing it.

Anybody here pregnant after IVF develop High Blood Pressure and get put on medication for it? How much different is the actual pregnancy process due to it? I mean, are there good chances that I'll have to deliver early...? This is my first pregnancy so ALL this is new to me... I don't know what to expect. When I first found out I was pregnant, the worry was of miscarriage and now it's changed over to worrying about Preclampsya or how the High Blood Pressure will affect the pregnancy or the baby...

Any info would help... or I would love to hear about your experiences.

=)

hi there... i'm in my 3rd pregnancy, and all of them i've developed HBP... this one i was put on aldomet... what my doc told me is that the meds only deal the BP, not preeclampisa... they want the BP controlled to aid in the development of the baby, as HBP can cause cord constriction and could lead to placenta abruption... if there is pre-existing HBP does not mean that it will be pre-eclampsia... there is a site that i found that might help... i thought that it was helpfull http://www.gynob.com/htiup.htm but just remember that the internet is the internet...

as for headaches... the meds did give me a few mild headaches, but the BP headaches were really bad, and they are like pressure in your temples/forhead... i also had a ton of headaches just from the pregnancy itself... so who knows...

i was also told that because of the HBP we would deliever early... i also have a few other issues, but we are not going to go past 37 weeks... also with my last two boys.. one was 4 weeks early the other was 3w4d early... they were both healthy and good weight, and got to come home with me... I hope that it has helped... and i do see the doc a lot more then most, but also have a BP machine at home... something i'm really glad i can watch for myself!!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. =)
I have a lot of questions to ask my OB tomorrow at my next check up.

Thanks again.
