Hi Katy
I've read a couple of pieces which say that you shouldn't eat them if either you or your partner suffer from asthma, exema or hayfever or, obviously a peanut allergy. I don't suffer from either of these but my husband gets asthma and hayfever quite badly so I'm off the peanuts. I am however eating cashews and brazil nuts!

Wow, I hadn't heard that. I've been eating peanut butter like it's going out of style! And besides the huge amount of weight that I've gained ( ) everything seems fine. Neither of us have a history of peanut allergies in our families, though.
Isn't it crazy all the things they tell you you can't eat? And I swear, as soon as I hear I'm not supposed to have it, that's when I start to crave it! Like hot dogs. I am, as a rule, not a huge hot dog eater. But I have just been craving them this whole pregnancy. I think it's because you can't just cave in to your craving and get it behind you. Oh well!
I asked the doctors at work this one as I was also confused and they said that there is a toxin on peanuts which in adults poses no real threat but in infants can build up and make them sick. Its not a garauntee, just a risk and so they recommend that you are wary of peanuts.
My mother ate peanuts with all her pregnancies (as she did salmon, camembert, wine, cold meats and coffee) and all three of us are fine...no allergies, defects etc. Back then women weren't told to avoid these.
I haven't eaten peanuts as such but I've still eaten stirfrys cooked in peanut oils and other foods that contain traces of nuts.
Best of luck
