I had my nuchal translucency test last Friday at 12 weeks, 6 days. The tech said that both babies were within normal limits, which we are very happy about!
I've heard, though, that the bloodwork done that day (and again at 16 weeks) is not accurate with multiples. Is anyone going through this right around now or has anyone had weird blood results but good scans and had health babies? I think I will be nervous until I'm actually holding two healthy babies due to my history, so I guess I'm just looking for some reasurrance.
Thanks-
Heidi

You are 100% correct in my opinion. I've seen different 2 different OBGYN's and both have told me the results of the Nuchal Scan are not valid because of carrying multiples. They said they do not do it because the results are completely invalid and can send women into a panic. Instead they will do a level II ultrasound around 16 weeks which is what I'm having.

My OB did the nuchal screening at 12.5 weeks and didn't say anything about it being inaccurate. He said everthing looked great and my blood work was great as well. Who knows? We all get so many varied opinions.
Either way, good luck!
Take care~

Thats weird. My OBGYN told me that the nuchal scan is very accurate and that the bloods would not be as accurate because if something does come up in your blood, they can't tell which twin it came from. Of course if your blood is fine then it means both twins are too. So they do anomoly scans to check for any deformaties between 16-20 weeks.
Every country is different I guess.

What your Ob said, Lisa, is pretty much what my Ob's nurse told me, as far as the bloodwork not being accurate with multiples, but the ultrasound itself is a good indicator. I've read that the u/s by itself is only about 70% accurate and that's why blood is drawn twice and they combine the results, but it seems like I'll be relying more on the u/s than the bloodwork because of having twins.
I'm just nervous I guess, and was just curious if anyone has had a good scan with weird blood results (with twins). I will have the 18 week u/s in Boston, which will be a level II, and hopefully that will put my mind at ease.
Thanks everyone-
