Blast trasnfer - 1 or 2?

Post by Kirebecca »

My husband and I just got the news yesterday that we have 8 top grade embryos and will be doing a Day5 blastocyst transfer. We are relatively young - I am 34 and he is 32. We are thinking of only putting one embie in, but don't want to lower our chances.

Any words of wisdom? It is such a difficult decision.

Thank you : )

that is great you are going to blast but the desicion is really yours.
they say it only takes one but putting more than one does help yours chances but there is also a chance of twins and if you know you could handle have more than one than increase your chances i know its a hard decision. i already have 2 kids and my last transfer was a bfn and we put threw embies back. but this time my doctor wants to put four which i think is too much so i am still going to stick with three. but you will make the right decision just pray on it

This is only your decision and it tough. If you are ok with having twins go for 2 as your chances increase. It does only take one but I would have to say for the money being spend up your chances and go for 2. I did 3 and only one took...So, I am thankful I did 3 as who knows which one took.
Good Luck making your decision. Keep us posted.

By the way mine were all 5 days blasts. When I did the FET they thawed 3 and they all made it. So my choice at that time was to just put 2 and do nothing with #3 or put all 3......Good Luck

Thank you for your replies! Yes....big decision for us tomorrow. I think we may just do 1 this time. If we have to do more IVF cycles, I think we'll put more in.

Good luck to you!

If I was making that decision, I would carefully consider the clinic's success rates with frozen embryos, compared to fresh. That is, I assume they will freeze whatever they don't transfer, and I'd want to know if they had good rates with frozens. If their frozen rates are good, then single transfer makes a lot of sense. If it fails you can easily try again with the frozens.

Well yesterday was my transfer. They actually really didn't give us much choice -- so we put one beautiful blastocyst back in. All 9 that were retrieved on Saturday made it to the blastocyst stage! I think that is a good sign.

They will let me know how many make it to today to freeze. If I have at least 6 to freeze I am wondering if I should just to a FET next if this one doesn't work. Hmmm.......

For now, I am home from work and resting. I unfortunately caught a cold in the last two days!

Thank you,

Rest Rest Rest....Thats great they all made it to blasts. Its nice to know you have a back-up should this not work. Positive thinking...This one will work. It made me feel a little more relaxing knowing I had blasts that are/were frozen. Rest and relax. Best of Luck to you. I guess the choice was made for you.

5 day transfer tommorrow / progesterone is racing my heart

Post by wishing&hoping »

I just had my egg retrievel on Monday. I had 18 eggs which 14 were good quality, matured. 10 fertilized and they informed me yesterday that I had multiple high quality embryo's . So i am doing a day 5 blastocyst transfer tommorrow. I am excited but am having a bit of a reaction from the progesterone caps. my heart races and I feel very paniky with a headache. i had the same reaction to aygestin at the start of my IVF cycle. Ii was supposed to be on it for a week but my heart raced to much. I called my DR and she said I must deal with it as I need it. Has anyone else felt this . I was feeling fine until these pills started to kick in. I felt like the DR was a bit harsh about it.

Wishing ----- Did you call your doctor? I am sorry you are having such bad symptoms. The progesterone suppositories just seem to make me very sleepppy

well yesterday I had 8 good blasts........but today today they called and said they only froze two. I wonder why? I was a bit sad and surprised.

GL to all of you!

crista, yes I called but the DR said I have to deal with it as I need the progesterone. I seem alittle better as I am drinking alot of water. Hopefully tommorrow goes good. I hope things work out for you.
