Aspirin, what should i do?

Post by beachbaby »

Hi Ladies, i have just had a ton of tests done to see if there is a reason for my bio-chemical pregnancies. we are being tested for chromosone among other things. However the nurse said the most common problems are clotting too much or immune factors. To reduce the clotting issue i can take one junior aspirin a day, but the nurse does not want me to start taking this until the results are back.
My result appointment is on Agust 9th, if i get pregnant in the meantime i've to call as some results will be back and the y may show something, problem1 i have never shown a positive result on a HPT. both my results have been extremely low on the BW so i would not know if i was pregnant.

All my tests are completed, do you think i should take the aspirin just in case (as i beleive i have been pregnant but lostt early) or should i wait for the results. i just want to give myself every chance and the wait is killing me.

Thanyou all

Hi J

I am sorry I cannot help as I dont know much about all that... But I found your post very interesting because I lost my baby in December, at 12 weeks. What I found the most difficult is not knowing why. As it was my 1st pregnancy and 1st miscarriage, no test was done.

From the beginning, I have the feeling that it was because of clotting. I dont know why I feel that way... Maybe because that at 11weeks 2 days I had a scan and my baby was well, heart beating and 3 days later, there was no more heartbeat. I believe that if the baby had chromosone abnormalities, he would have died before. And I had no bleeding, the baby was well attach...

I am now in my 2WW and I truly want to start taking baby aspirin. I know I should ask my doc, but she does not listen and is stubborn. Shall I just take it without anyone knowing??

I dont know...

Why dont you ask your nurse why she does not want you to take the aspirin before the results are back? She must have a reason. If you can talk to her, I would also tell her why you feel that way about taking baby aspirin!

I wish you the best

Hi Souris, I wish you all the best in your 2ww. I asked the nurse and she just said to take nothing until all the tests are completed, as aspirin is not the wonder drug they all thought it was, but it is such a small amount for such a short time, i feel very tempted, as l know if i do get pregnant naturally i will lose it before i know i am pregnant, the most late i've ever been is 8 days, and HPT's always come back negative. both my positive bloodworks have been under 20, no HPT tests that low.
I cannot advise you but i hope it all goes well for you this time.

Hello Beachbaby and Souris,

I know it is hard, but follow the RE's instructions. I have to take the aspirin because of a clotting issue and there were important defects they had to check for because I was taking the aspirin and heparin. If you do have the disorder, you will have repeat miscarriages and they will easily be able to tell with the genetic testing. I had 9 pregnancies with two live births. When they did my tests, they found I was positive for the Lupus Antibodies as well as I have two mutations that relate to how I process homocystine levels. These two things cause my blood to produce small clots that could be killing my embies. However, you must also be very careful not to bleed to death if you fall or get hurt. Sometimes it is a little scary.

God Bless You and Good Luck!

I really can't say what you should do. I do know that alot of Dr's are giving asprin without any proof one way or the other on the risks or benefits with the exception of clotting disorders which in my opinion women should be tested for instead of just putting everyone on asprin just in case they have an undiagnosed clotting disorder. Asprin is not a safe drug in pg. Did you know it can cause bleeding & mc? Not to mention possible birth defects? I am 12 weeks pg with twins & have a huge list of meds that are safe in pg & asprin products are not one of them. I lost my last pg at 9.5 weeks. We went in for an us & the heart had just stopped. I was on asprin throughout that pg & I had them do the clotting test & chromosmal testing. My baby was perfectly healthy & I don't have a clotting disorder. I believe I lost my baby due to progestrone. I had stopped it 2 days earlier. I decided to do things differently this time & didn't take the asprin. My babies are perfectly healthy & I am still on a very low dose of progestrone for my sanity. I will continue it through this week. I don't know if asprin works or not but, it hasn't made a difference for me. I know other women who have taken it & their babies were fine so, do whatever feel right for you. I hope this helps you.

thanks ladies for your replies, i think i will just wait, its just so frustrating having to wait 10 weeks when my clotting results will be back in 4. i have already lost 2 babies that we know of that is why i am having all the tests.
many thanks to you all.

Hi Beachbaby -

My RE put me on a low dose, delayed release aspirin after the transfer. I do not have any history of clotting, it is just a standard part of their protocol. Of all of the medicines she has put me on, I did absolutely no research as to why/why not to take aspirin. I guess I figured it wasn't another shot, didn't make me bloated, stay awake at night, get acne, make my breasts hurt, make me cramp, etc. It is interesting how much of this varies from clinic to clinic....and how this is still an evolving science.

Hang in there. You have lots of women out here pulling for you.

Beachbaby,
I too have had 2 chemical pregnancies and just finished waiting for my blood tests which all came back normal. So, still there is no answer for why I can seem to hold on to the pregnancy. What other tests are they doing for you? My doctor decided to do the blood tests for any clotting disorders plus a sono but then said that we'll proceed if those all come back normal - which they did. I am worried that if I conceive that I'll lose the baby again - since we haven't figured out why it has happened twice. I would like to be able to ask my RE about other tests but I have no idea what they would be???

Thanks!
Kelly

Hi Kelly, sorry its taken so long to reply, DH and I have both been tested for chromosone abnormalities, these take 10 weeks to come back as they grow them on. I have also been tested for immunology? if my body is rejecting my DH contribition. clamydia, strep (only a problem in labour and delivery) but as their testing they are doing it all. Also a couple of other swab tests. testing my thyroid, i am on medication for this already, E2 FSH and a few others. My clinic test everyone after 2 misses, but the nurse said they only find a problem in 1 in 3 ladies if they have all had 3 miscarraiges. Clotting and immune problems are the most commom, she said chromosone problems are about 1 in 100 that she sees. hope this helps.
Good luck and hang on to the dream, at least we can get pregnant we just need to find a way of keeping hold of them.
