Seondary (or 3rd or 4th) Infertility?

Post by Kelley77 »

Hello Ladies! I have been reading for quite some time on the board, and thought it was time I say Hello :) Long story short.....

I am 29 & my husband is 41 - We have an almost 4 year old beautiful little boy who was naturally conceived (4 days after we got married....and the ONE MONTH, I never thought about it..but unprotected sex for over a year) Pregnancy & birth was EXTREMELY SMOOTH. My husband however has three children from 2 previous relationships (I know I know.....but third was an oops while going thru his divorce) ANYWAY...we recently found out that he has congenital unilateral missing vas deferens (so he is only missing one tube) we also found out...that he only has one kidney - which is very common...so if your man is missing one tube..most likely he is missing that kidney! Crazy to find that out after 41 years!!! Well this has been the case since he was born, apparently..however he has naturally & VERY EASILY conceived the first three...and the fourth...well I had wanted a baby for a long time, and thought I had the problem..well like I said, I got pregnant.

We found out all of the stuff above because we have been trying for over a year and due to protocol, he had to have a sperm analysis..well he has a count of only 1.7M with not the worst but def not the greatest morphology - about 50% seem to be ok.

Well can anyone believe this????? I mean..he has all these kids, and this whole time I thought it was me!

With this being said...we are going to be doing IVF/ICSI next month (dates yet tbd) I want to be positive, but I have been reading so much sadness, that it is hard to stay positive. Do you think it will work? I dont know what I am looking for from you lovely ladies...maybe someone is in the same boat I am....thinking all this time it was me (since he has kids..plenty!) only to find out it was him?

Kelley......

Kelley--Yes, there are a lot of sad stories out there. But there are also a lot of happy ones. For instance, in my case my dh had low sperm and morphology (very similiar numbers to yours) and we were told the only way we would conceive was through ivf. Went through one round of icsi which ended in bfn. While waiting for af to arrive after the bfn so I could start a frozen round, we conceived naturally! And it looks like with your dh's other kids there is definetly hope!!!!

So stay strong and I wish you the best of luck!
