This is my first post but I’ve been reading the site for a couple of months. My first IVF with ISIC & Assisted Hatching resulted in BFN. No embryos left for freezing. Now on my second cycle, I started taking Bravelle, Menopure and Lupron. Now on day 10 of stim my Dr is having me take menopure, Lupron and Centrotide. Anyone else have a cycle like this?
Sounds like a flare cycle. When did you start the Lupron?
Flare cycles are the third most common protocol in IVF. The most common is the long protocol, where the Lupron (or similar drug) is started well in advance (late in the previous cycle). The Lupron is started way in advance because, if taken mid-cycle, would cause a surge of LH (and FSH) that would cause ovulation too early.
Next most common are antagonist cycles, where Cetrotide (or other antagonist, such as ganirelix) is given after follicles start to develop. These antagonists shut down the pituitary directly (no LH surge), and don't need a long lead time like the Lupron does.
Lupron flare cycles take advantage of the initial surge in FSH levels (and LH) that result immediately after the Lupron is started. This, in combination with prescribed FSH (as contained in your Bravelle and Menopur) jump starts the development of follicles. After the flare with Lupron, an antagonist (like Cetrotide) may be used to suppress the pituitary and prevent an LH surge.
