Hi all,
I will be doing my first cycle of IVF in July and am looking for any words of wisdom you might have.
I'm experiencing secondary infertility--I conceived my 3.5 year old naturally, although after a year of trying. This time we tried naturally for about 9 months, then moved to clomid and IUI. Sadly, I had a very early miscarriage after my 2nd IUI, but didn't have any luck again.
It's been quite a journey, and I'm grateful never to have to take clomid again. But I am concerned about what the IVF medications will be like in terms of side effects. I produced 4 follicles each time at the lowest dose of clomid, and experienced a lot of discomfort. But worst of all by the last cycle, the clomid eventually started making me feel crazy too--anxious, obsessive, and super-depressed. It's taken a drug-free month to recover.
Are the IVF medications as bad in terms of emotional side effects? I'll be taking Lupron and Dexamethasone during the suppression phase and then Repronex and Follistim during the stimulation phase.
I just finished my 3rd IVF, and I have taken Clomid before too. The IVF drugs did not seem to affect me like the Clomid did. The Clomid made me very crabby/moody too, but the Follistim never really affected my emotions. We finally got a BFP with this third try of IVF, and I too have had a miscarriage in the past so I am very nervous right now this will work out. The IVF meds will make you produce several eggs, and it does get unfomfortable but it is bareable and shouldn't be too bad as long as your doctor monitors you well.
