Hello everyone, I am new here and hoping you can all help me find lots of information to help me along this rocky road.
I am 49 and we are hoping for a little addition to our new family. DH sperm is perfect. My FSH was 10.9 last week, but 21 6 months ago with no treatment, although it was normal 2 months before that?
The 21 level was taken during very stressful time ie moving house and country with lots of logistic problems. Was this why my FSH was high?
Went to doctor and he has given me cycloprogynova for one month and told me to come back at end of packet.
Has anyone started on similiar path, anyone my age with similiar level managed to become pregnant?
Thank you for any support or advice

Cairobug~ Though I am not in your position I wish you the best of luck. How long ago did you have your other children? My suggestion would be to listen to your RE and your own body. The reality is that you are in a position where your quality of eggs could be in question. Do they have PGD in your country?
No matter what, wanting for a new baby and having trouble hurts at any age and I hope that things go well for you and your new DH! Sorry I am not of any help. Take care.

I hope you find good doctors and culturally appropriate care for your difficulty. In my country (Brazil), doctors are extermely reluctant in using eggs from women after age 42. It is a case by case decision. At 49, your chances are much better with donated eggs. In my country you don't need to buy eggs as you can share the costs of treatment and use half of the eggs of a women who wants desperately to conceive. There are other countries in which that is possible, even at your age.
I am waiting for my pregnancy test - I am 48 and received donated eggs.
Let me know if you want to continue talking about it!
Best wishes, Literatriz

hi Cairobug - What I've learned since ttc #1 since Sept 2005, is that the FSH is not an indication of egg quality in anyway, whatsoever. Though a number below 10 would indicate that your ovaries aren't working overtime to induce ovulation. A # above 15 is indeed a high number and would indicate a poor response to stimulation drugs as well as low egg reserve. My FSH was 6.1 tested in Oct of 06, I am 36 and will be 37 in August. I have already suffered 3 early m/c's and 1 chemical pregnancy. All a result of poor egg quality. Though, I hear women of all ages can have good or bad egg quality at any age. I hear young women having poor quality and women in they're 40's having babies naturally, so you just never know. But unfortunately, over the age of 45, the statistics are against you using your own eggs. I think the % of a successful pregnancy and live birth over the age of 45 is 1%. With donor eggs, your success rate jumps to over 50% as the uterus does not age at the same rate as our eggs do.
I would recommend moving onto Donor Egg, since you are over age 45. We are doing our first DE cycle in Sept/October of this year. The statistics of success are very high for DE.
Please feel free to PM if you have any questions if you are interested in pursuing this path. Good luck to you.
Cathy
