Anyone get a BFP on their 9th attempt or know s/one who did?

Post by Natalie Anne »

Hi all

I am on my 9th attempt (if you include abandoned attempts which my clinic does) and am hoping for some encouragement.

I have heard of so few women who carry on after a few negatives that i feel like I'm on my own here.

I'm downregging for a medicated FET at the moment and just wanted some encouragement.

For the record, I have had every test under the sun and am still being told by the clinic that i am "unlucky". I've now given up my job as it was stressful and they didn't approve of me having time off for ivf so I had to lie a lot. I am hoping that this lask of stress will make all the difference.

Any success stories would really help me to stay positive.

I have a very good friend that had a beautiful baby girl on #7. She did change clinics after #5. I think to try to get some new ideas/techniques and she highly recommends that. Just a thought.

I have another friend who ended up having twins with donor eggs she tried many times over the course of a few years with her own as well, but I don't know exactly how many. She also had luck shortly after changing clinics. She switched to the one that my first friend switched away from. So even with very good clinics sometimes fresh ideas are good.

Hi

Better late than never with a reply.

I'm pregnant after my 8th attempt, just a few weeks to go.....

Everyone is different, I'd decided that I wouldn't do anymore than 10. I think as long as you are coping, the consultants are still being positive and you are managing financially then why not, you'll know yourself when enough is enough.

Wishing you all the luck in the world

Natalie,
I had 5 IVF cycles ( 2 were canceled due to a cyst), I got pregnant on my 5th attempt.

I have the same exact problem, my husband has no sperm thru ejaculaton.
I switched clinics after my 2 full cycles of IVF. Let me ask your a question, when they are doing fertilization, are they using fresh sperm or frozen?

thanks for your replies ladies. Well done on your positive result Wendy and thanks for the words of encouragement, they really help.

Malinka, my husband had Surgical Sperm retrieval. It is an invasive operation under general anasthetic where they retrieve enough sperm for many many attempts. We have never had a problem with the sperm. We've had 3 fresh attempts and this is our 6th frozen attempt. On the first fresh cycle they retrieved 23 eggs and 18 fertilised, on the second i got only 2 as I was on a different drug, but both fertilised, and on the third time, i had 17 eggs retrieved and all 17 fertilised so fertilisation is not our problem.

Congratulations on your positive result.

HI

when i first joined this site in 2001 a lady called Di got pregnant on her 9th cycle!!

We also have male factor and after 4 fresh cycles of ICSI, 3 frozen......we swithched to DIUI.the 1st failed but the 2nd was a success and I am now finally pregnant!! so hang in there......
Have you considered DIUI? We also never had fertilisation problems and always produced a good amount of embryos but as we had so many failed attempts are consultant suggested the DIUi route.......after much soul searching we went down this route and it is the best thing we have done...............We have decided to tell noone and are just happy we are finally going to be parents

Good luck and looking forwards to seeing your +ve result!!
