Hi All
Just been told I may get OHS when I have my injection on Wednesday. Have been told that there are various degrees and it may not stop treatment. Has anyone had this and if so what can I expect? Love and hugs
Aly
x

hi aly,
I had ohss on my 1st go. It wasnt as bad as some people get , I was only in hospital for a day with drips galore! I collapsed after ec and was really sick, but they still continued with et 2 days later, even though I could barely move. I didnt even want et I felt so bad but the clinic wanted to.
I know this may not sound very nice and it wasnt! BUT they still did et. I was really poorly for almost the 2 weeks, and said I would never do it again, but I did! I had 54 large follies and lots of teeny ones so my ovaries were bursting!
This time had 34 large follies but I wasnt sick and didnt need a drip. I felt rough but I was so over the moon not to be sick! just make sure you drink loads of water.

dont mean to worry you, but just want reassure you that you can still have et. I think many clinics just want to really prepare you for it.
I was told this time there was a huge risk again but I was fine.
My ec was also moved forward both times due to lots of follies.

remember.....drink loads of water!

Im sure youll be fine aly,
I wish you well with ec on wednesday or is it friday? and all the best for a BFP!

That 2ww will soon be here, thats the worst bit!
take care
kathryn
x

[Edited by kathryn on 04-Aug-03 11:19]

dear Ally
I have had OHSS twice now,the first time I swelled up like mitchellin man,as I had fluid on my liver,I was in Hospital for 5 days, until the swelling went down.I had the OHSS after i had ET,I literally came home swelled up rang the consultant and I had to go straight back to hospital. The second time happened after ET,about two days later in the middle of the night,I thought I was dying as I could not breathe,I was rushed straight into hospital,I had fluid on my lungs, again I stayed for 5 days. The consultant said I had moderate OHSS.My DH said we were not to do it again, after all the pain, but I did try an eggshare after the third go,and I did not get OHSS,so we are now going for our 5th and last attempt at the Chalybeate Hospital in Southampton.
Hope everything works out ok,the pain is soon forgotten
Love
Jane
xxxx

Aly

I had moderate OHSS, my consultant told me when I was in theatre for EC that she was worried & did not recommend ET. (i was really upset as you can imagine)
AFter EC i felt really really ill & was v bloated, I really wanted to go ahead with ET. The consultant said it was my choice but her professional opinion was not to have ET.
My husband was worried about me being ill & so I decided to have frosties frozen & did not have ET.
EVeryone is different but although difficult I think I made the right decision, I was ill for 2 weeks & I am sure if I had ET would have been worse & ended up in hospital.
From what other people have said it seems more likely you are hospitilised if you go ahead with ET. (you may be ok though so dont worry)
I would recommend as Kathryn drink loads of water-at least 2 litres a day, also keep out of the sun & keep cool-my consultant recommended against sitting in the sun, although did say ok if you are in shade-as long as you keep your body temperature down.....

I have convinced myself, right or wrong that if I had had ET they would not have survived because you need to be in tip top condition for them to implant & feeling like I did with fluid on ovaries etc I really think it would have been neg. & it also woul dhave taken longer for me to be back on my feet.

Good luck wed. Its your decision but what I would stress is listen to your consultant-they are the professionals & their judgement is not clouded by the need to become pregnant.

Lots of luck
Sarah
xx
