Traveling on airplane with Lupron

Post by Sue1234 »

Hi- I am just wondering if anyone has traveled while on Lupron. I will be taking a six hour flight and I want to know if Lupron has to be refrigerated and if you had any problems carrying the needles and meds on the plane? Thank you (1st IVF cycle)

Hi Sue
I dont know about the refrigeration of lupron - it should say on the package but I do know that most airlines will only allow injectionables (needles etc) if you have a doctors letter. Suggest you contact your airline in advance to see what your local requirements are. You should also ask about bringing on board ice packs. I know BAA are very concerned about them as they contain +100ml of liquid.

Good luck and have a good trip.

I traveled on an international flight last year while on Lupron. I packed a cooler full of ice packs and had a letter from the doctor. I told security what was in the cooler before it went through the xray machine. I didn't have any problems, but I don't know if any restrictions changed within the past year. You may be able to fine FAA guidelines online? Have a great trip!

I'm not sure about refrigeration, but I traveled to England while on progesteron. Get a letter from your doctor, but I didn't even have to show the letter...

Hi,
I just got back from Russia and i took lupron on the plane with me, i had a letter from my doctor but they never asked me for it. Lupron can be kept up to 77 degrees, so don't worry.

hi - i just traveled from ny to italy with lupron. i suggest packing the needles in your luggage. for the actual lupron - it does not need to be refrigerated until after it is open. if its open, i suggest setting with an ice pack and get a doctors note and once you are on the plane ask the stewardess to put it in the fridge for the flight. i did that for an 8 hr flight and it worked out.
