Hi there.
Im new to this site AND to dealing with the hospital.

My husband and I have been told that there is no known reason why Im not pregnant, even after 8 years of trying. His count is normal. I have had a couple of tests done including the one with the dye/xray, and everything seems normal.

My consultant has now put us forword for IVF. Im 33 and need to loose 2 1/2 stone before we are allowed to go futher.

Can anyone please tell me what to expect now, because im really starting to feel that time is not on our side.

Thank you

Elle.
hi elle

welcome to the site & to the same boat as myself. I have been ttc for over 6yrs nov and like you both me & dh seem to be ok.
Well we had one failed ivf last aug where none of my eggs fertilized so i am about to start try no 2 this time with isci.
The consultant could not tell us why none of my eggs fertilized only that "either your eggs are tooooo HARD!! or hubbys sperm is not sharp enough" VERY FRUSTRATING but hopefully isci will be a success for us.

What i would advise you is that you speak to your consulatant about the possibility of this happening you and for them to keep half your eggs for isci if possible as this will save you going through another cycle.
If i can help with anything please let me know.
love hayley
Hi there Elle and Hayley

Hear, hear Hayley. Completely agree with insisting on going half ICSI - this is exactly what happened to us. Our first IVF we had 22 eggs, I gave 11 away as egg share. None of ours fertilized with IVF and 10 out of 11 of the ones I gave away fertilized with their sperm. The embryologist said that there weren't as many sperm as usual gathering around the egg, yet alone trying to burrow into it!

I've been on this site for a couple of years now and no-one else seems to have had this problem, so it's very interesting that it's croppping up a few times (Gilly from another thread had something similar).

Elle, we sound similar, I'm now 35, but was 33 when I started IVF and was considered 'young' actually, so don't panic! Also had been trying 8 years. You mention your weight, have you been checked for Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome? It can be treated at some clinics by Metformin. I think it helps with the weight as well - search on the website for 'Metformin and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome' it's still under trial, but I was put on it for the 2 ICSIs. I have a mild form of it - PCO but it wasn't spotted by the first few NHS scans I had done, only by a specialist when I went private.

You've probably noticed that I finally got a positive result, with a frozen embie transfer. A long way to go yet, but just to let you know that I'm just so happy to have had a result, as I thought that maybe it was impossible with this particular problem.

All the very best of luck,
Nicola x

TTC 8 yrs. Me 35, DH 52. 1st IVF eggs didn't fertilise, sperm couldn't get through shell. 2nd & 3rd ICSI got embryos but -ve. 1st FET +ve with twins, '1 disappeared' at 9 wks. One baby due 9th April.
hi nicola

i am so happy to see your post this morning!!
massive congratulations on your positive result - it gives me alot of hope for the nx few weeks especially when you have had the same problem! I was really panicking that isci may not help either - just goes to show miracles do happen.
have a h&h preganacy and enjoy ever minute.
luv hayley
Thanks for the info ladies. Well done Nicola, fingers crossed for you.

I have been tested for PCO, and like everything else, when the results come back clear you don't know to be happy or sad!

I have an appointment with dietition next week, so hopfully I will be give some positive advice then.

I also have my next app with my consultant in Dec and what I would like is to comply a list of questions I would like answers to. Do you have some ideas what I should be asking?

Thanks
