Post Your Success Stories Here

Post by babyhopes1 »

Successful IVFers, could you please post your stories to give us some extra hope & inspiration? We all have our days when we feel that it'll never happen. If you post your stories here, everyone will know that it CAN happen!

Feel free to add any additional comments - this is just a guideline to get us started.........

How long have you been ttc?

What IVF number was this for you?

Was the successful IVF fresh or frozen?

What was your protocol?

Did you add anything to your protocol to help (baby aspirin, drink pineapple juice and so on)?

How many were transferred?

Were they 3 day or 5 day blasts?

How many took?

Did you feel anything different to make you think that this might be it?

What were your pregnancy symptoms?

What did you get a from POAS or beta only?

Did you try any alternative help (such as acupuncture)?

Do you have any advice to give us?

Thanks and congratulations to you!

Hello babyhopes I like your topic it is always nice to have a pick me up when you are going through this well where do I start TTC 5 yrs realistically (after DH's reversal) 1yr this was our 1st IVF attempt (fresh cycle) and thank GOD for the BFP because I think it would have been our last, we have no insurance coverage for anyof this and as I am sure you all know it is very expensive. they retrived 9 eggs only 5 fertilized they put in 2 embies on day 3 and the other 3 didn't make it to blast so none to freeze. During the 2ww I must confess I read the old wives tale about the pinapple and I ate at least 2-3 pieces a day for the first week. I had no symtoms until about 7dpt and then I started to get a really watery mouth that was my only symtom and still is. I don't know yet if both embroys stayed I don't have my 1st US until Sept 18th. In the mean time just trying to be excited about my BFP!!!! wishing you and everyone else lots of luck!

Looks like Aliann and I are in the same boat. TTC for 2 1/2 years after hubby reversal. This was our first go at IVF w/ICSI - so fresh cycle. My DH is military and they do not pay for infertility - so all out of pocket for us as well.

I did 1cc of repronex for 10 days and then on to the PIO shots. I also read some of the wives tales - I did accupuncture, ate peanut butter and slept on my stomach. :D All that and only 3 eggs were retreived and all three fertilized. Transferred 2, 9 cells on 3rd day and find out on the 17th how many took.

I have one (natural) child from a previous marriage - she is almost 10. Yikes! This pregnancy has been completely different so I didn't think it took. Currently I am hungry all the time - but can only eat very small portions and my bbs are extremely tender and growing (so wierd to have boobs.)

Last pregnancy I had m/s before I even missed my period which continued well into the 2nd trimester leaving me about 25 lbs lighter than when I became pregnant. I am already liking this pregnancy more - but scared about how much weight I am going to gain. :?

My only advice would be to have ICSI performed - I think it helps a whole lot.

GOOD LUCK on becoming pregnant :D !!
ME-34 and DH - 35
TTC for 2 1/2 years
DH - Reversal
1st IVF w/ICSI - Aug 23...BFP Sept 02.

How long had you been ttc?
2 yrs

What IVF number was this for you?
2

Was the successful IVF fresh or frozen?
Fresh, I never had enough embryos to freeze

What was your protocol?
lupron, menopur and follistim

Did you add anything to your protocol to help (baby aspirin, drink pineapple juice and so on)?
No

How many were transferred?
3

Were they 3 day or 5 day blasts?
5 day

How many took?
1 but it spilt so I had identical twins!

Did you feel anything different to make you think that this might be it?
No, I thought it hadn't worked

What were your pregnancy symptoms?
Sorry if this is TMI, but my nipples were erect during 2ww and throughout the pregnancy. Weird, I know!

What did you get a from POAS or beta only?
I did a POAS several days before my beta and got a positive

Did you try any alternative help (such as acupuncture)?
No

Do you have any advice to give us?
Miracles happen! We had terrible quality embryos, 2 D's and 1 F (A-B-C-D-F scale). I was convinced it wouldn't work, so I didn't do bedrest and lifted heavy things during my 2ww. First I was told I had an ectopic, then I was told I would miscarry, then finally they decided I had identical twins, which is why the beta numbers were off. So please never give up!

Great topic! I appreciate all the successful stories. Please elaborate on protocols during 2WW especially as I find it fascinating how different they can be and I want all the info I can find for my last 7 frozen embies!

Thank you to all who are sharing!

How long have you been ttc?

Almost 3 1/2 years, unexplained infertility. We tried naturally for about 3 years, then went through 4 failed IUIs.

What IVF number was this for you?

The first.

Was the successful IVF fresh or frozen?

Fresh.

What was your protocol?

Lupron, Follistim, Menopure

Did you add anything to your protocol to help (baby aspirin, drink pineapple juice and so on)?

I didn't, really. I was on bed rest the day of transfer, and took it relatively easy for the next 2 days (I worked, but worked at home). No sex for 4 days post-transfer, and I didn't exercise during the 2ww (even though my doctor said light exercise was ok).

How many were transferred?

Two, which was all we had. 8 eggs were retrieved, 4 fertilized, and 2 made it to transfer.

Were they 3 day or 5 day blasts?

3 day - one 5 cell, one 6 cell.

How many took?

One.

Did you feel anything different to make you think that this might be it?

I'm not sure if the things I felt during the 2ww were really "this is it!" symptoms, or just wishful thinking on my part. I occasionally felt some mild twinges in my belly, and there were a couple days I felt really hungry. I also had really sore boobs, but I figured that could be due to the progesterone injections. By test day I had pretty much convinced myself that I was going to get a BFN. I couldn't have been more shocked with the news.

What were your pregnancy symptoms?

I'm still not very far along, but so far it's mostly been hunger, some mild twinging and cramping, and some increased gas and mild heartburn. I definitely don't feel pregnant - it was a relief to actually see the U/S because part of me believed the nurses must have been reading my beta numbers wrong :)

What did you get a from POAS or beta only?

I avoided POAS like the plague!

1st beta = 258
2nd = 673
3rd = 3646

Did you try any alternative help (such as acupuncture)?

No.

Do you have any advice to give us?

This is pretty obvious, but try to keep your mind busy during the 2ww and stay positive. I was convinced that with our low numbers of eggs and OK-but-not-stellar embies, there's no way this try would be successful. It does indeed only take one!

How long have you been ttc?
Hubby had vas reversal in 2003 that failed and we started IVF ICSI in 2004
What IVF number was this for you?
5th cycle
Was the successful IVF fresh or frozen?
Fresh cycle
What was your protocol?
Buserelin for down regulation then fostimon for stimulation. Progesterone pessaries for after ET.Did you add anything to your protocol to help (baby aspirin, drink pineapple juice and so on)?
Drank a lot of water. Min 4Litres per day.
How many were transferred?
2 x grade 4 embryos (1-2-3-4) Grade one the worst and grade 4 best grade possible. Very different grading achieved from all 4 previous attempts.
Were they 3 day or 5 day blasts?
2 day transfer
How many took?
Both took.
Did you feel anything different to make you think that this might be it?
Tingling boobs from about 3 days after ET and it continued until about 3 months into pregnancy. What were your pregnancy symptoms?
Tingling boobs, PMT type feelings.
What did you get a from POAS or beta only?
POAS 10dp2dt (very strong positive)
Did you try any alternative help (such as acupuncture)?
Yes I did 2 lots of colonic hydrotherapy before treatments to ensure my body had detoxed fully from all previous treatments etc. Clinic thought this was why I produced the top grade embryos too.
Do you have any advice to give us?
If you can afford to financially try to keep going unless its obvious it will never work. Try to keep sanity by doing as many normal things as possible and don't ever let it effect your relationship with your partner/DH. Whether you have children or not, your partner is very important.

Positive thinking, relax (as much as is possible in these situations!) I regret not keeping a diary throughout all of my treatments, especially this one, and also wish I have looked up this website before now,for all the support it offers

think this is a brilliant idea!

How long have you been ttc?

21 months; dh has severely low sperm motility and count (count less than 250,000!); indications that i may have an egg maturity problem (???)

What IVF number was this for you?

2

Was the successful IVF fresh or frozen?

fresh, had no frosties first time

What was your protocol?

synarel nasal spray to downreg, puregon for stimms, cyclogest pessaries from EC to test day, nothing after test day

Did you add anything to your protocol to help (baby aspirin, drink pineapple juice and so on)?

tried drinking plenty, gave dh a vitamin supplement, which i bought of zita west's website...was convinced it wouldnt make a difference but the clinic mentioned how much better dh's sample was second time round

How many were transferred?

2 8 cells

Were they 3 day or 5 day blasts?

3 day

How many took?

1 - it's still early so fingers crossed!

Did you feel anything different to make you think that this might be it?

i was convinced it hadnt worked, especially when i was hospitalised with OHSS. in hindsight i now know though that the OHSS meant i probably was. but was convinced it hadnt worked (not like first time where i was convinced it had worked!)

What were your pregnancy symptoms?

sore (.) but apart from that nothing else during 2ww

What did you get a from POAS or beta only?

our clinic only does pee sticks...as i was in hospital with OHSS this time, they decided to test a day early (13 days rather than 14 days after ET) and it was positive. little did i know one of the nurses started testing my urine secretly 3 days before test date and got positives but was told she could not tell me...  ...they then did a beta too which was 343

Did you try any alternative help (such as acupuncture)?

did acupuncture with my first but not with my second

Do you have any advice to give us?

do whatever relaxes you the most and try and get on with life as normal...my first IVF took over my life, i thought about it 24/7, stopped all alcohol, caffeine, did acupuncture, started forcing breakfast (i hate breakfast), etc. I now think that none of that was necessary. although I needed to do all those things first time round so i couldnt blame myself for anything if it didnt work i actually think it stressed me more than it did me good. second time round, i merely REDUCED caffeine and alcohol but never gave it up completely (did give up alcohol completely since 2ww), didnt do acu as the needles stressed me out and trying to find time for it, didnt have breakfast and just led life as normal as possible. inevitably i didnt think of IVF 24/7 and was a lot less stressed!
2nd IVF/ICSI - baby girl Elliana born 21.4.08 weighing 7lb 6.5ounces; 7 frosties left...

I forgot about that - I took Medrol (Methylprednisolone) for a few days starting on the day of transfer.

Oooohh I haven't heard of that one - what is it used for? I googled it, but it talks mostly about inflammation, arthritis and male issues - what was your use for it?

Hello!
Happy to help

How long have you been ttc?

Not sure, seems like ages though!

What IVF number was this for you?

Had one fresh IVF with some frosties left over., was successful on my first FET

Was the successful IVF fresh or frozen?

I bombed out on the fresh cycle. Defrosted one frostie on a frozen cycle which didn't survive the thaw, defrosted another which has made it so far!

What was your protocol?

Because I have PCOS i was on a low dose of stims, 75 iui of Puregon, and Lucrin to down reg. I think I stimmed for about 10 days or so. After ET I was on crinone gel during the fresh cycle and progesterone pessiaries for the frozen cycle.

Did you add anything to your protocol to help (baby aspirin, drink pineapple juice and so on)?

No, on my second go I tried to be a bit fitter and lost a few kilos, overall tried to be more relaxed (not easy following my panic after BFN)

How many were transferred?

One on each occasion

Were they 3 day or 5 day blasts?

5 day blasts.

How many took?

One

Did you feel anything different to make you think that this might be it?

I don't recall any signs during the 2ww. In fact I spent a lot of the 2ww on my successful go hiding under my bed clothes thinking it hadn't worked...

What were your pregnancy symptoms?

Only kicked in after 2ww, sore boobs, tiredness and nausea...

What did you get a from POAS or beta only?

Did HPT a day or two before official test date (actually quite a few HPTs). Had blood taken by my clinic as well

Did you try any alternative help (such as acupuncture)?

Nope

Do you have any advice to give us?

Try not to give up hope after a few setbacks, there are so many ladies who have gotten BFP after numerous goes.

Amy, I tried Metformin last year but it was used in the context of trying to help regulate my cycle (due to PCOS problems). I've not heard of it being used to assist implantation....I hated it, I spent two days lying on my office floor thinking I was dying - in hindsight maybe a bit overly dramatic....

Supposedly it suppresses the immune system a tiny bit, making your body less likely to reject the embies.
