Lost 1 Twin

Post by Aliann09 »

This is my 1st IVF went for viabilty U/S last week and we had twins they were just perfect! size, heartbeats RE said everything looked great, I was released and sent to my OB my 1st appointment was yesterday and 1 of my twins no longer had a heartbeat! DH and I are both devastated, I feel horrible and I just want to cry all the time. OB said that it was probably a chromasomal abnormality and this usually happens 25% of the time with twin conception. The other baby was doing really well, it had developed it's arm and leg buds heatbeat and size were normal and it was moving doc says I have a very healthy baby in there but I can't help being scared that I will now lose this one too. Have any of you ladies had this happen, and carried remaining twin to term?

Aliann,
I'm so very, very sorry for your loss.
I've never been pregnant, but a friend of mine got preg with triplets thru IVF last year. First they lost one, then another of the babies. They were pretty scared. But they now have a 6 month old, fat & healthy baby. And a coworker of mine's sister did IVF twice, got pregnant with twins both times but had just one baby each time. She was told that they "reabsorbed" So I think it must be pretty common. I don't blame you for being scared, but there's every reason to think that the remaining baby will be just fine.
It must be very strange to be going through the grief/pain of a m/c and the happiness of a viable pregnancy at the same time. My thoughts are with you, it must be a very tough time for you.

Thanks for the thoughts ladies very sweet and really warms my heart, I wishing all of you happy healty BFP, town and bean I followed your cycles and am sending you both lots of baby dust and for you also 2ndtimer thank you so much for sharing those stories, I can't tell you how nice it is to hear postive stories about remaining twins making it. I return to the doctor next Tuesday and I am just keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be good I know that I won't be out of the woods until at least week 12 for a little braething room but I think that if everything looks ok next week I will feel better than I do right now. Again thank you for the well wishes.

Vanishing Twin

Post by brenda3 »

Sorry to hear about your loss. I did IVF 3/06 transfered 4 emb pregnant with twins at 6wk us at the 8 wk us one twin didn't have heartbeat. My High risk OB said very normal for vanishing twin to occur. I was so worried to lose my other baby but she arrived only 5 wks early and is a very healthy 10 month old. Hang in there I know it is very stressful but try to take it week by week.
Good luck,
Brenda

First congrats on your BFP. I am sorry you lost one of your twins. I think that happens alot with ivf and probaby in the general public too. We too were pg with twins and lost our sons twin at 8wks--We have a beautiful 4.5 month old son now. We still think about his twin all the time adn wonder what if. I think your other little one should be just fine. Hang in there and try to relax(i know way easier said hten done)bridget

Aliann my heart just breaks for you...my mom lost a twin (my sister's) and from time to time she still talks about it...I think it's your 'baby' that you'll always hold in your heart.

Your one embie sounds very healthy, I am rooting for you and your husband and baby...and wishing you some peace of mind.
