Newbie here - looking for way to make progesterone shots bet

Hi, I'm fairly new to the site, and though I have been finding support by reading all the postings, this is the first I've posted on my own. My husband has Cystic Fibrosis, causing a congenital absence of vas deferens. Knowing it was our only option, we jumped into IVF. Actually, to clarify, we desperately wanted to start IVF, but only recently found the finances. Braving the needles for stimulation, my egg retrieval was on Friday, and according to yesterday’s report, 8 eggs fertilized! With my transfer scheduled for Monday, I have started my daily progesterone shots, and though they don’t sting as much as the stim meds did, they seem to make nice little knots in my rear. Does anyone have a secret to easing the discomfort? Thanks for all of your positive messages – so many IVF sites seem to focus on the negative, and some even look down on members sharing positive news. It is refreshing and encouraging to find such a positive group!

HI there Not sure am that much help - I think I took the prog but suppository - if the injections are really unpleasant ask if you can change.....its all the same stuff I think. If not have you tried ice cubes on the injection spot first and after?? re your tmt - hope you dont mind my askin but.....Are you doing ICSI with TESE- I'm assuming with no vas, your dh has few sperm in ejaculate....sorry to be SO graphic! My dh had mumps and so had no sperm in ejaculate - we had to use ICSI with TESE and I have come across very few others who have used this method - let me know if you are in the same camp!! Good luck! Hi Catherine, I don't know about progesterone shots but I had progesterone in cyclogest pesseries. They were much easier. Just pop them up (trades-mans entrance) and forget about them. Perhaps you could ask about them at your clinic. Carol [Edited by carolss on 24-Aug-03 14:43]

Hi Catherine, I'm doing the progesterone jabs at the moment, so you're not on your own! I had my EC last Tuesday(19th) and 2 embryo's transfered on Thursday 21st. The jabs are pretty yuk aren't they. My Dh does mine straight before bed so at least I can relax(!!!!)afterwards. We were told to rotate from bum to upper leg, but after having one in my leg thurday night I wouldn't necessarily recommend it(the feeling in it is only just coming back, and it's Monday!) I usually find giving yourself a rub in the site of injection helps a little. Otherwise, maybe a spoonful of sugar, as recommended by Mary Poppins! Anyway good luck with your treatment. Ella

Hi Catherine, The jabs sound nasty. I had cyclogest pesseries last time and they wer fine and certainly a relief after all the injections pre EC. May be worth asking at the clinic - the worst they can say is no and if so I'm sure it will be for a very good reason. keep smiling. Allison x

Hi Catherine Well I am an old hand at these progesterone injections. I had them for 10 weeks on my last cycle until the miscarriage and I am pregnant again so am jabbing away until 12+ weeks. There isn't much I can say to help as my right cheek is one major knot - my aromatherapist told me to massage away when I am the bath or shower to loosen the muscle. We are rotating - the left leg is a killer. My dh has found a solution to stop any bleeding (press a cotton wool ball down at the same time as removing the needle and it doesn't hurt as much). They are not fun, but to be honest I wouldn't want the pessaries cos of all the mess. At least it is over with in a minute. Good luck! Michelle [Edited by MichelleS on 26-Aug-03 06:25]

when i took my shots, first i made sure that my dh wasnt mad!!!! i would ice it for a couple of minutes then he would give me a shot on the bum. then he would rub it a little and then i would use the heating pad for a couple of minutes .. my nurse said that the heat would help it move faster.. we also switched from one bum side to the other... i was to chicken to do my leg...
