Folic Acid AND vitamins

Post by frenchy »

Hi ladies,

I'm preparing for my ICSI next month and the doctor told me to start taking a brand of folic acid tablet. When I told him I take vitamins which included folic acid already he told me to stop them and just take his tablet.

I'm a bit reluctant to stop my vitamins so thought I would take both. My question is - is it possible to take TOO MUCH folic acid? I think I read somwhere that if you take more than you need you run a greater risk of twins/triplets - but I really wanted confirmation that it definitely doesn't do any harm.

If anyone has any ideas on this I would be interested. :D

Not sure on statistics or taking too much but I spent a FORTUNE initially on multiple bottles of this and that and found out that PREGNACARE available at most chemists/supermarkets have the exact requirements of everything you need so I would defo opt for that.

Good luck with treatment x

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the reply and good luck wishes.

I reckon you're right in that getting an 'all-in-one' would be better. I was doing a bit more research on the net and now it would seem there is maybe a link between too much folic acid and autism, so I think I will go for something like Pregnacare. Thanks again and best of luck.

Hi

I would also recommend Pregnecare........i am now 32 wks pregnant & am still taking it daily & you can continue to use whilst breastfeeding......

it provides all the vitamins & folic acid you need............

I find the cheapest way to buy it is in Boots as all their vitamins are 3 for 2 at the moment...........it works out cheaper to buy 3 small boxes this way than 1 large box...........

Good luck with your tmt

It's a really good Q, I don't know if you can get 'too much' folic acid!

I take a prescription prenatal vitamin...it provides more than the recommended dose for folic acid, and I'm comfortable with that, as it's specifically for prenatal.

Maybe you should ask him for a prescrip for your prenatal vitamins. My insurance covers mine...
good luck!
