Hi ladies,
My son will be almost 4 mo. old for thxgiving. I am thinking about visiting w/ an uncle that is 6 hrs. away by car. Do you think it is ok to do this?
Also, for X-mas, we would like to go to Hawaii but it is about 9 hrs. of flight time from minneapolis. I am not sure how he will handle it. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I traveled from Houston TX to West Palm Beach FL when Makayla was 6 weeks old. We drove with my two older sons and me. It was hard because she ate every two hours, so we had to stop every two hours, but she did great!
I am going to take her to Elk City OK this Thanksgiving and that is a 5 hour drive. As long as you make stops and let your angel stretch, they will be fine. I love traveling with my kids. I have always traveled with them.
We took our twins to the Oregon Coast two weeks ago and they did great! The 8 hour car drive put them to sleep the entire way. We awoke them every 3 hours to eat and to let them stretch their little legs and they were perfect. My girlfriends with small children say it's easier to travel with a baby that can't walk yet. Good luck to you!

I travel and have always traveled with Isabella by car - she was almost 1 month old when we drove 4 hours...well it lasted about 5 with all the stops...but it is doable and the babies usually sleep...and you do need to stop to feed them, fresh air, diaper changes ect....I think the sooner you travel the easier it is later on. We drove 15 hours with Isabella in July when she was 7 months..she did great! Just be patient and don't set any time frame..like you must be there by 6pm or something..because as well all know with babies there is no such thing as planning!
fly while you can..
kids fly for free until they are 2 years old.
my granddaughter flew with ME to st.Louis and got to see her great great grandfather.
then to reno and another trip to Florida..
i bought a light weight 10 dollar fold up stroller and did curb side check in.
i took a car seat with me the first time but i just rented one the other times.
for long drives we have a portable DVD player and she watches it.
she likes baby Einstein DVDs. have a diaper bag next to me with extra bottles or drinks and munchies that she could eat..
we werent blessed with our babies to raise here but we our blessed with our grandaughter
and all of our many adopted and foster children that touch our lives
and i am glad to add that our 6th grandchild will be born this spring!!!!
Thanks for all the replies!
Since it is only 5.5-6hrs, we would rather drive than fly. Even though it is just an hour flight, we don't want to spend time getting to the airport, checking in, claiming the baggage and then renting a car. We won't save much time by flying, especially given the thxgiving chaos at the airports.
Sounds like going places with a baby should be normal, just with more breaks.
