I asked my doctor about sweetners because my mom insists that Pheynolanolene (not sure about spelling?) causes mental retardation , my doc didn't seem to know about that study but he said if I were to use them to use Splenda because it doesn't get into your bloodstream therefore will not be transferred to the baby.
Hope this helps

Why would you even use the artificial sweetener? Just use less of the real stuff. I had gestational diabetes and that was the advise I got from the endocrinology nurse. I am bfeeding now and I still don't use artificial sweeteners. When in doubt, just avoid it. However, if you happen to eat something that has the artificial sweetner in it by mistake, don't beat yourself over it, I am sure it is not gonna' harm the baby.
I was told not to use Equal, Sweet n Low etc., they said use regular sugar. My doc told me that there has not been enough research done on Splenda yet so he advised me to stay away from it.
I'm with Deepa! I would much rather use less of the real stuff than something man made or artificial. It's just so much better for you and your baby and your body can identify it and break it down so much better. Whe I needed something sweet I would buy fruit like starwberries, pineapple, blueberries ect. . . and I would make smoothies out of them and frozen yogurt. It worked every time!

Thank you girls for your advise. The main reason why I asked this was because I am supposed to drink 2-3 liters of fluid/day, and believe it or not, water makes me very very queasy, so I can't tolerate it, and I wanted to drink some kind of juice, but I figured that if I drink 2-3 liters of juice with sugar/day I will end up being a pig by the end of the 9 months!! . But I guess I will do the juices with very little sugar, don't see other alternative....

I had the same problem with water. And I'm a total water-aholic. Only recently have I been able to drink water like before getting pregnatn.
I wanted to share a couple things I did so I could get it down without a bunch of empty calories. (too sweet also made me queasy) I had 2 routes. First, I put in fresh lemon juice. This really helped. When I got sick of this, I made caffene free iced tea. with or without sugar. My OB was fine with caffenated, but I've been caffene free for so long. Both were completely neutral and caused no nausea. I hope this helps.
