Need reassurance, I'm only 5 weeks and spotting

Post by nicaliw »

I am 5 weeks pregnant and everything has being going well. The only thing (until yesterday) was the AF type cramping/aching I was having pretty much on and off since embryo transfer. I tried not to worry about it because my beta did its thing and more than doubled.

Yesterday I had a very small amount of brown, then pinkish, then brown spotting, barely enough to get on the liner. I called the nurse and she just told me as long as I wasn't soaking one pad in one hour with blood its probably nothing. I told her I have also had cramping/aching the whole time.

Is it normal for this to happen? Shouldn't they be testing for something? Am just over reacting? Today I have only had a smear of brown discharge but still cramping/aching. I'd rather someone was honest with me if this sound like I'm losing the pregnancy.

Hi Nicaliw-

We're in a difficult spot during this time and the feeling of helplessness is troublesome. My advice to you is trust your doctor. They want you to be successful and they want to help you when something is wrong.

I had cramping pains and sharp, shooting pains. I went to my doctor and told her to give it to me straight, over what symptoms should I freak out and which ones should I expect? She said cramping and spotting were EXTREMELY common; sounds like pretty much the same thing your dr said. She said to call the office if I had excrutiating pain or heavy bleeding.

You're not alone. :) Hang in there and try to get some extra rest.

Hi Nicaliw, I had been through the same and I know how nerve wrecking it is. I have had spotting, brown, red, bleeding, tissue, clots, you name it. Also cramping, a lot. Every time I thought everything was over, but I would go have a scan and the baby was still there, beating. My RE told me bleeding is very common, as a matter of fact 40% pregnant woman have some kind of bleeding during the first trimester. In my case the bleeding was coming from a subchorionic hematoma in the uterus, which is pretty common.
So hang in there, most probably everything will be ok!!!!

Hi to you.

Just wanted to share my experience with you. I found out I was 5 and a half weeks pregnant last week. It was a shock because I should of tested on the 24th of November following my 2nd IVF Cycle. I didnt make it. I had a show on the 20th November and did a test, it was negative. I then carried on about my business, I was still spotting with a bit of "brownish/pinkish discharge" over the weekend until my Husband said on the Tuesday 27th, just take another test just to close things out because I hadnt had a proper period. (I just thought I was all over the place after 2 cycles of IVF). Anyway I did and it was positive. I was so shocked, I thought it must be wrong. I called the hospital in the morning and they didnt seem too overly concerned about the discharge as long as it wasnt Red Blood. They told me to take another test just be sure and booked my scan for Monday the 10th Decembter. I did a test and it was positive. I still had spotting for a few days after. I put my feet up and rested for two days and I am grateful to say that spotting stopped last Friday. I have my scan on Monday and yes I have done another test and it is still positive.

Stay strong and rest up and eat properly and I am sure you will be absolutely fine, I am testament to that.

Good luck
Angela
