Ongoing Pregnancy Rates Seem Low!

Post by Kristie »

Hello ladies: I am seven weeks pregnant after an IVF procedure (I'm 39). I am excited, needless to say, but nevertheless, I keep reading posts from various ladies and so many of them, sadly, do not make it to their 2nd trimester.

I went on our doctor's website and it said that an ongoing pregnancy for women my age is only at 32%. I was a bit shocked.

Anyway, we are supposed to see the heartbeat this Thursday, but (and I don't want to rain on my own parade here) I am just not as excited. I feel like my hopes should be limited since the rates of on ongoing pregnancy are less than half.

Any advice...I'm new here...thanks!

Hi Kristie,

Please don't be discouraged. Many women who don't do IVF have miscarriages and will never even realize it because it was early on. We know about the pregnancy at a very early stage so it seems like the rates are higher. The miscarriage rates drop dramatially after you hit the 12th week. You are only a couple of weeks away from that. Be positive for your baby. I know it is scary to get your hopes up but just realize the fact that you are pregnant...and I know in many of our cases that was a really big hurdle. I know it was in mine. Good luck....and hope everything goes well. Please stay positive.

Take care,

Michelle

HI Kristie,

Our problem is that we know too much, we have an access to too much info and we start freaking out even if it is not nesessary.

Stay positive for you and your baby, don't let any negativity eat you alive.
Good luck on your HB appt, please keep us posted on the results.

You're Right

Yes, you are right...my husband and I read WAY too much on these forums. We should spend less time reading and more time praying.

Thanks again...Kristie

Hi Kristi, Please try not to worry, i found the wait for the scan was harder than the 2ww, As has already been said we find out so early this is the reason there seems to be larger number of losses. As for reading in to things too much, i am 38 and having twins and my clinc stats for live birth with twins is 1.6%. Now that freaked us out, but i have had 2 scans and both babies are measuring bigger than they should, so i take comfort in that.
I wish you the best on Thursday, enjoy, its wonderful to see those HB's.
good luck
