DH low sperm count

Post by Nadia123 »

Hello, my DH has low sperm count, low motility and low morphology. We did two failed IUI and one failed IVF. The IUI used only one sample from DH and the count was really low, so our chances were 5 percent. I was wondering has anyone's doctor recommended adding several samples of DH sperms for IUI to increase the numbers? Did it work? And, did anyone's doctor recommend vitamins to DH to increase numbers? We are looking at things like Proxeed Plus to help increase DH numbers. Has anyone tried it?

Thanks,
Nadia

hi nadia123,
my dh has below average count, low motility, so we had suggested to our doctor that he give multiple samples too, but he said they've tried that and it never seemed to increase the the likelihood of the iui working. i'm not sure of any vitamins or drugs. my dh has been taking a multivitamin through the process, but it didn't change anything. :?

DH low sperm count

maineknitter,

Thanks for the reply. I read in several books that you can use several samples of DH sperms to increase the odds but my Dr. never suggested it. Thanks for letting me know what your Dr. said. My DH has been using Vitamin E, but so far no change.

Hi Nadia, I am from Akron (hey neighbor). I asked the doc about vitamins...they said you can always try. It is nothing proven yet...but I was told it takes a minimum of 3 months to get newly made sperm ...therefore 3 months to see a difference. I put him on:
GNC Mega Mens Multi-Vitamins 2 a day.
1 L-Caritine
1 L-Argnine
1 Co Q 10
1 Vitamin C 500 mg
1 Vitamin E 1000 mg
1 Selenium 200 mg

Does it help? I dont know. He just had another SA done Jan 2 which is 3 weeks short of 3 months that it takes to supposedly work. I havent got the results back yet. I will post an update when I do. I got this cocktail off of another woman online who finally after many years got pregnant. Doc said it wont hurt you so...why not.

Hi.

My dh has also sperm problem. :(

I'm surprised that your doctor advised you IUI in first place!!! He should go straight to IVF or ICSI.

I think if you had already 1 failed IVF then you should try ICSI.

If you don't mind me asking till which stage did you go on IVF?

My dh took folic acid tablets and i believe that his sperm has improved a lot. He is also on another supplement called IMMUNACE which contains iron, zinc selenium...

See also on General Forum a topic that says "Good information for man & woman" and another if i remember was in july/2007 that says "Folic acid for man"

Good luck

Hi

Hi, we were told vitamins may/may not help. My dh was never big on them & did not take them routinely. As for combining 2 specimens of sperms, we did that with all our IVF attempts. We were told one time was not enough & were asked to produce another specimen & both were combined. In one of the IVF attempts, it worked [ended in m/c sadly at 12 week], other times it did not. Finally, we went ahead with ICSI. Usually, they say ICSI is the best solution for sperm related issues. We only needed 1 sperm & so no issues there.

First u/s on Jan 8 - one cute heartbeat :)
