Did you get a BFP on 2 consecutive IVF cycles?

Post by Grey »

I'll be starting IVF #2 in March. My first IVF in August 2007 was successful, but sadly ended in m/c at 11 weeks because of Trisomy 13 - one of those random genetic events that just happens sometimes. My husband and I have had bunches of tests for just about everything, and our diagnosis of unexplained infertility still holds.

Here's my (crazy!) question: I know, intellectually, that the success rates for IVF are on a cycle by cycle basis. I understand that the fact that I got a BFP on try #1 does not decrease my chance for success on try #2. But I can't stop my silly brain from feeling pessimistic about my chances this time around. It just seems that most people don't have BFPs on back-to-back cycles.

So I'd love to hear from any of you that had back-to-back BFPs. Maybe it will help me feel more positive and hopeful about getting this process started again.

Thanks, ladies - don't know what I would do without this board :)
DH & I both 37
IVF #1 8/2007: BFP, but M/C at 11 weeks due to Trisomy 13
2008: 6 IVFs canceled - poor response
IVF #2 2/2009: 2 embryos transferred, BFN
Mid-2009: 4 more IVFs canceled - poor response
IVF #3 10/2009: BFP, hoping it sticks this time!

Hi Grey, so sorry for your loss, my story is slightly different but thought it might give you hope.
i have only done one fresh cycle and i was fortunate to get 12 good quality embryo's to use. in the Uk we are only allowed to transfer 2 at a time, so i froze 10. i got a BFN. i then did a 2 FET's both ending in Bio-chemicals, i had further tests was found to have a clotting problem i took a junior aspirin this time and i am now 16weeks with twins.
So yes you can get back to back BFP's please keep the faith.
good luck
Me 39, DH 40. TTC 5years
4th times a charm,1-IVF, 3xFET's, 2 chemical

Hi Grey

I don't post often but I thought I'd reply to your post...

As you can see from my profile at the bottom that I have had success in a row.

My 5th, 6th and 7th cycles were all BFP's.

I am so sorry for you loss - I had multiple losses as you can see but I never gave up and I now have my gorgeous little girl Chloë who has just turned one so keep going hun you will get there.

My 3rd cycle was a BFP and my baby girl had a heart defect which was 'just one of those things' but it did worry me for future pregnancies but I was monitored well throughout thankfully.

Good luck
