I'm on my second IVF attempt- this time we did a FET on 2/11 and i've been doing 2 ccs of progeterone in thick oil since then- 1 cc on each side. Each day i get more sore and now i can barely walk, sit or sleep without pain. I just switched to suppositories + 1cc yesterday but can't feel any differnce in the level of pain in my ass/hip area obviously.
HOW CAN ANYONE DO THIS FOR 10 MORE DAYS (UNTIL PREG TEST) LET ALONE 10 WEEKS IF PREG????????
Have you been using a heating pad after the shots? It is the only thing I found that helps me, in fact, it makes a huge difference. My hips are a little sore, but nothing like what they were on previous cycles. I put the heating pad on and massage the area (firmly, with the heel of my hand) and do that for at least 10 minutes after each injection. I got the idea off of this board and it has saved me.
I hope you find something that helps.
Good luck!

My RE told me that people may have a reaction to the oil that the progesterone is in. If you get it in the fatty tissue at all, it can set up a reaction like a big lump or red sore area.
There are a lot of suggestions on this board- some people say heat before, heat after, some say ice before, heat after, some swear by exercise after. I use the Emla cream (put on 1 hr before injection), then I ice the area for 5 minutes, dont feel much at all when the injection is given. Then I massage the area and start moving around. I do leg lifts in all directions to move the hip and make the muscle do some work. I think the blood flow and movement helps distribute the medication more. Who knows. Its working for me so far. No pain at all afterwards.
I agree though, 10 weeks! UGH. I dread the process every night.
I just spoke to my doctor and told him that i didn't htink i could handle the constant pain from these injections & i'm worried about long term damage. he told me he would prefer me to stay on the shots with suppositories, but that is his job is to get me pregnant! He told me to listen to my body, and that reports have shown that Endrometrium is the first product approved by FDA and it may work as well.
I am having a lot of trouble with my PIO also. Inn the first weeks - no problem, but I got my BFP and am still doing them, it has gotten harder, they hurt more and my butt is lumpy and hard - always sore. One day I had a lump the size of a lime! I am about to ask my RE for an alternate place to give the shots. Still have 28 shots to go! Let me know if you find out anything. Oh and the heating and massage help a lot!

I had the same problem with ivf#1, word for word!!! The pain was excruiciating and I had trouble walking! It was the worst part of the whole ivf experience!
I did these for about 4 days and told RE the pain was so bad. He said I could get away with a 1" needle instead of 1 1/2" due to my size, and since then, the shots are a breeze. Not even a bruise most of the time. So you may want to ask about it. I wouldn't have been able to continue with the 1 1/2"!!!!
Good Luck!

I sucked it up and did what you all recommended...started with the heating pad for 10 minutes, PIO then heating pad for another 10-15 min with massage firmly with the heel of my hand, and it was tolerable. I will continue the fight again tonight . Good luck to you all.
Has anyone had the guts to do the PIO themselves? My DH does it right now and its ok but not sure I could do it myself. There is a Youtube video that shows a woman giving herself the PIO injection.
I was told for the first week that after the shot, I should massage it and put a heating pad on the area. Do that for 10 minutes then to get up and walk around for a few minutes as I guess it moves that part of your leg. then just continue this regiment for one hour--but for only the first week. The purpose of this is so that the oil doesn't pool in one place. I was also told to alternate the side of the injection every night (so every other night is done on the same side/area)
There are two types of oil bases (one is sesame and I don't recall the other) in which progesterone is dissolved - ask your RE if he can give you the other oil type from what you're current using - maybe you're not tolerating the actual oil type.
I think e1 has given you lots of great hints though - be sure to warm the oil in your hand for quite a while before injecting it - it really helps it to dissolve.
Strangely enough, it will get better - I did believe the PIOs were the most painful of all the IVF shots - my bumm was full of bruises for the first 10 weeks, but it really is all worth it!
I told my RE that my bum was getting so hard that it started gushing the oil out! He let me do Crinone 8% twice a day instead of the PIO shots at 6 weeks and 3 days. I am happy now!!!

What do i do? HELP i'm in tears!
Just a minor point: The product is Endometrin and it's not the first to be FDA approved for reproductive medicine. The first was Crinone, so now there are exactly two FDA approved for use in IVF cycles. The gold standard of most RE's I know is the PIO injection, but this has never been approved for that use. Off label drug use is common. Lupron has never been approved for IVF, for example.
Me2, after about 3 weeks of taking them they were ok and then all of sudden i am getting hives from them! red whelp likes on my buttocks. Doc is switching me to vaginal suppositories and to think after all this time i could have been taking them! I am 5w3days today, so I have a while longer to take them........
