Hi Nicky

When we were first put on our NHS waiting list, we were told the wait was 2 1/2 years. We got a call a year later to say that we had come to the top of the list and could start treatment the next month! This was a bit of a shock! We expected to move up the list slightly earlier but not by 18 months!
We didnt feel ready mentally or physically and because we wanted to put our all into the treatment we didnt want to 'waste' our chance which we felt we would if we wasnt ready for it. I wanted to lose weight and be healthier (Although this wasnt essential for our treatment to go ahead). They had no problems with this at the clinic, they just put it off for a few months.
We were successful first time and Im convinced it helped that we were fully prepared to go through the treatment. However, I have since discovered that our clinic had NHS funding on hold recently, so if this had been the case 3 years ago, we could have missed out. I didnt even consider this at the time.
I think its worth discussing with your clinic. Maybe they could give you another date in a few weeks/months and you could use that time to get yourself prepared and lose some weight. I think the only time in my life I have had so much willpower to lose weight/get healthy was before my IVF treatment. The only time I stuck to it anyway!

Good luck!

Love Kim

Hello,

The same has happened to us - i rung the clinc back in November and was told we were number 42 on the list and we wouldnt hit the top untill at least Aug this year - well u can imagine my shock when we got a letter begining of January saying we had reached the top and they wanted to see us when my Feb AF arrived!
I too wanted to lose some weight before i went ahead with the tmt, but our clinic dont offer different dates (only if its down to medical urgency) So, i am still waiting on my Feb AF and we are going ahead with tmt, while im still trying to cut down. I know people say 'oh well u have a good enuff reason to cut down now' but im still finding it really hard at the minute and nothing seems to be working!
All i want to do is sit in a heap and fill my face with junk! I dont have any energy to go for a walk even - i sit all day behind a desk at work, and by the time i get home and make dinner - its 8pm and all i want to do is sleep! This is our last chance as we cant afford to pay for any more goes, so i really need the 'omph' to get up and sort myself out!!!!

Good Lucky Nickyz, let us know how u get on, and Kim - i see from ur signature - ur pregnant naturally!! Wow - Congratulations, u must be over the moon :D

Hi nicky
I got to the top of the list then found out i had a cyst on my overy.
My clinic refused to treat me until the cyst had been treated.
I was then backwards and forwards to the hospital having scans and having it measured, This went on for a year. And it then dissapeared by its self.
Anyhow my funding was held until i was ready for it. Which was about 15 months. I kept regular contact with my funding lady at the clinic she said once that the funding had been received it was to be used whenever i needed it.
Hope this has helped
