IVF dosage changes, I'm afraid

Post by missleine »

I had my IUI last year and it failed. Last week I had my baseline level tested (blood draw and ultrasound). Today I had my blood draw and nurse said that I have 5 eggs, 3 eggs are way ahead than the other (size 18 the largest). I'm getting afraid as nursing called this morning and said doctor changed my dosage tomorrow to just microdose lupron and cancelled follistim and menopur, tonights dosages are still the same, follistim (300 dosage) and microdose lupron. How many eggs do they really need and why the change in dosages? Thanks.

Hi missleine

I wouldn't be worried about the change in the dose of the meds. On my first IVF cycle they reduced my follestim from 175 to 100 to 75. The typical reason for reducing the meds is that the hormone levels are getting too high. They dont want your body to be over stimulated. My levels were more than double where they should have been every time. To answer your second question the number of eggs they want would depend on your situation. It only takes 1 to have a baby though. So think about it that way.

I am currently waiting to take my third blood test on 3/6 but they arent expecting it to be good. My first levels were 9 on 2/26 and 16 on 2/28. My husband and I are both 27 and didnt think we had any fertility issues, we were just going through IVF for PGD. My last 2 cycles I had 25 and 29 eggs. However they have determined my egg quality is bad. I most likely will have to have a 3 cycle. I hope everything goes well for you.

I think it's pretty common to change dosages. Remember everyone responds differently to the medication. I responded too well after 4 days on Menopur and it was cancelled by day 5 to prevent OHSS. I continued on GonalF and Lupron. I am now 8w2d pg with twins. :D
