We are doing IVF #1. I had my ER yesterday (17 eggs) and received fertilization report today. We were rather disappointed. Out of the 17, 8 were immature and out of the remaining 9 only 2 fertilized.
I have my Day 3 TX scheduled for Tuesday.. that is.. IF the 2 make it till then.
Do you have any idea what the likelihood is of these 2 embies making it till Tue., 2 more days?
Also, we suffer from male IF. DH had a testicular seminoma removed 1 year ago. We are not sure if this is still the cause of his IF and if so, why things haven't gotten better as far as sperm quality, quantity, motility are concerned. Do you have any thoughts on whether he should find a Dr that can get to the bottom (or try) of the cause? Or is it most likely unexplained..?
p.s. we are at Cornell, so in very good hands. But noone ever mentioned trying to figure out his problem.
Thanks!
Sue

I don't know the odds, and it probably varies from clinic to clinic. Obviously it would be better with more embryos. I don't blame you for the disappointment with 2 fertilized out of 17. That is unusually low. But it only takes one. We've had a few patients with just one egg make it all the way.
Cornell's lab is run by Lucinda Veeck, who has an excellent reputation (and some impressive publications). So yes, I agree your embryos are in very good hands.
I have no idea about the potential male factor, as I have never researched that (I'm not an MD, just a lowly researcher). I think your RE at Cornell should be able to answer that. Certainly infinitely better than I can.
Thanks Justine. The IVF nurse this morning said they did ICSI on all. I was quite astonished too with the outcome but did not ask why as I put all my trust in them. We are in the US, at Cornell, actually. They are one of the best. I am debating if I should call tomorrow and ask or just find out on transfer day (Tue.), since there's nothing that can be done now anyway.
