Anyone else diagnosed with t-shaped uterus?

Post by indie_rad »

I have been diagnosed with a t-shaped uterus that has smaller than normal capacity. I have gotten pregnant multiple times now, but the pregnancy seems to end up either in the wrong place or ends with a m/c. I was wondering if there is anyone who was diagnosed with the same issue and still went on to have a healthy full-term pregnancy?

Would really appreciate any feedback because I am wondering if I should do any more IVF cycles or move on with adoption.

Thanks.

indie_rad,

i don't have a t-shaped uterus, but i do have a unicornuate uterus, which is approx half the size of a normal uterus. my RE says that this should not prevent me from conceiving, but there is a slightly higher risk for preterm labor. usually, they have to sew the cervix as a preventative measure. i have tried 3 ivfs and had two biochemical pregnancies and one negative. i only transferred one each time due to the uu and risk for preterm labor. i am seeking another opinion in a few weeks, but my 4th cycle will be starting soon (AF due tomorrow). so, i don't have positive news, but i did a lot of research on this subject and talked to several doctors. since you have a t shaped uterus, did you ever discuss surgery? i don't have that option because there really is nothing in the way...mine is like a banana shape. here's a link to a babycenter board about uterine anomylies >>> http://boards.babycenter.com/n/pfx/foru ... cus1379817
i would recommend checking it out...and perhaps posting. i've been at this for a while, too, and am contemplating adoption, too. we've both been close, and i think that is what keeps me going. i don't know, sometimes you feel like you're fighting a losing battle, but i think as long as it is still safe for us to do this (ie, not having too many ivf cycles) it's worth trying.

Hi Diane,

Thanks a lot for your reply. My journey has been a little frustrating. My last RE and another RE that I sent my reports to pretty much said that I had a t-shaped uterus and that would cause all kind of issues - ectopic/implantation issues etc etc. One of them said surrogate is my best option to have a biological child. But my current RE seems much more optimistic, he doesn't think my t-shape is an extreme case that would require a surgery or be the cause of my m/c. I don't know whom to trust/believe, its all been very confusing. I will check out the babycenter board for more information. Good luck with your next cycle. DH and I are still talking about our next steps - IVF or moving on with adoption.
