What is Menopur?

Post by dreamer38 »

Just curious what it is used for? My RE gave me an rx for it, and all three of my other cycles I've never used it, and I really don't know what I would need it for. But if of course the outcome of using it is better/or good then I'm all for it!! Thanks for the input!! :)

Menopur is a source of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) with a little hCG mixed in (the hCG is to mimic LH). FSH is the same hormone your pituitary naturally produces to stimulate your ovaries to develop a follicle (containing an egg). By giving your more FSH (as Menopur), it is probably intended you will produce more follicles to increase your chance of pregnancy through IVF or ovulation induction.

Menopur is one of many FSH products on the market.

Menopur and Gonal F is what i was put on during my first (and only) attempt at IVF. They said it was an aggressive protocol for me since I had a high fsh (13). It resulted in 2 beautiful twin boys so I wouldn't worry. It is a good drug : )

Hello,
I'm on Cycle day 4 today nad because I have a genetic blood clotting issue (factor V Leiden) I cannot go through a long Lupron Protocol (I can NEVER again be on BCPs since they cause clots). So for now I take 150 IU of Gonal-f at night and 75IU of Menopure in the morning. I'm going for a US and BW on Thursdayto see what my follies are up to.
Were you on the samem protocol? I'm worried that this is the protocol that will not yield a lot of eggs since it's the shorter version.
Any suggestions? This is my 1st IVF so I'm very nervious.

dreamer38 - what type of protocol will you be on?

Thanks again!

Thank you all for your help on this!!

On my first fresh IVF, I was on BCP, Lupron, and 300 units of gonal-f at night, then of course the progesterone later on. But this time they threw me for a loop and everything else is staying the same but they have just decided to add the Menopur.I asked about it and they said that it's just another stimulation med to make even more follies. I'm guessing they're trying to make a lot of follies since this will be our last attempt at a fresh cycle so more frozen can be made if I need them.
I wouldn't worry, I'm sure you'll make lots of follies. Especially taking both! There's a couple girls on here that have V Leiden as well, and I believe they're pregnant. I would definetely post something on the Pregnant after Treatment board and I'm sure they will pop in and give you some info and support as well! Good Luck to you!!!!!
