I had cramping and spotting today at 5w5d, so given my history I went in for a sonogram. Good news - it's twins! Bad news - one may not make it because it's so incredibly small. Put it this way, when looking at them on the screen one is the size of a half dollar and the baby is the size of a dime.
We saw a heartbeat on the bigger one, but not one on the baby. The doctor said he will not worry about not seeing the heartbeat on the smaller baby unless he doesn't see it on the sonogram this Friday.
Has anyone had this happen and the smaller one turned around to grow well?
Thanks!
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,
5w5d is really early to see a HB so I wouldn't be too worried. I had cramping at that time too and we were only able to see the the sacs. At 6w6d I saw 2 beautiful HB's. Sadly at my 10w6d u/s I had been told I lost one of the twins at 10w. I'm not telling you this to frighten you, I just hope you proceed with caution. Please take care of yourself. RELAX! AND DON'T STRESS OUT! I'm guessing several twins have one that is a runt. Maybe your smaller bean just needs a little more time to get started. I always had one that measured about 3 days smaller than its twin. I will keep you in my prayers Good luck tomorrow. Please let me know how everything goes.
