IVF with severe cough and bloating

Post by SMILE »

Hi! This is the first time I have done IVF and got implanted 3 embryos on May 16th. After the Egg retrieval I had a slight fever and I vomitted a lot so my doctor pushed by implant date by one day.

I am still coughing a lot and he has suggested having tylenol. I am so scared of taking any drugs. I cant sleep at night because everytime I lie down my cough increases and hurts my abdomen. And my stomach has bloated to th epoint that i look like I am 5 months pregnant. The doctor said that it is because my ovaries have enlarged and there is a lot of fluid. He said that if my bloating reduces then the embryos are not taking over and doing what is should be doing and I might not be preganant. I am soooo scared because my bloating has started to reduce.

My pregnancy test is in 2 days and i am not feeling positive.

Has anyone gone through this? Has anyone had a severe cough during IVF and severe bloating and has been succesful?

Dear Smile,

I know this is a tough time, but just wait and keep up the PMA! Th 2ww is so very long, and I know that we worry about everything, but I had a fever, coughing and was sick with a bad flu for the couple of days after my ET, and I am now 19wks pregnant!!!
Tylenol or acetaminophen is fine to be taken throughout pregnancy- check in your pregnancy book or on line if you are really worried. Most importantly, they want the fever down.
- there can be problems associated with Ibuprofen and anti-inflammatories as our bodies need the inflammation to promote implantation and continued uterine/placenta good stuff( again- do some research)
I have severe back problems, so I wondered what pain relief I could use-I spoke at length with my docs prior to all of the IVF stuff. Tylenol was recommended, as well as Tylenol 3( with codine) is ok if necessary for me.
Honestly, REs and OBs are so overly cautious regarding pregnancy and legal issues, if there was even the slightest chance of problems associated with Tylenol, we'd know about it (like caffeine, alcohol, etc)
best of luck with your Beta

yours,
loopie

Dear Loopie

I just came back from my Blood test and saw your note. Your note was reassuring. Yes my fertility doctor said that I can take Tylenol with codine if needed but I was very nervous about it. Anyways I now only cough when I am lying down. I guess i have to wait for the results now and hope for the best.

Loopie I was wondering if you had severe bloating. My doctor said my bloating is because I have PCOS and my ovaries have become big based on the HCG shot that he gave. I literally look like I am 5 months pregnant. Have you gone through that.

I am happy that your preganancy is going well and wish you the best.

Thanks again
