My gestational carrier is now 9 weeks pregnant with my twins. She was diagnosed with type II diabetes when she was 5-6 weeks pregnant. Everything I read online says that having uncontrolled type II D can cause physical/mental problems in babies. I'm very worried. Her A1C level at 5-6 weeks was 5.8. Her daily readings after meals have been averaging between 117-150. This does scare me, she is not on insulin yet. She should be on medication in the next few days. What is the reality of the situation?

I don't have Type II diabetes but I am 29 weeks and got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. You have to be on a diet, take your blod 4 times a day and eat often. My readings are from 90s to occasional 160. Have her consult a dietician to creat a meal plan and then see them every 2 weeks or so to adjust the plan as necessary. THe twins should be fine if you are able to control using diet. Pleanty of women who have type II have healthy babies, don't worry!
