Progesterone injections vs. progesterone suppository???

I think this was asked before...but, what is the difference between progesterone in oil injections and progesterone suppository??? Because my insurance doesn't cover meds...my clinic said I could do the progesterone suppository because it's cheaper. Of course I want to save money...but I want to use what is best. Anyone know???

In my clinic they want me to use both. I do one injection as well one Sup. every night so I think you may need to ask your RE. Good Luck

I think the injections might give you a more accurate amount of progesterone. My doc had me do the injections for the 1st 4 days and then switch me to the suppositories 3x/day.

When I was on injections my P4 was higher than it is now that I am on suppies. I have found that the PIO is cheaper than the Endometin suppies. I also so NOT like the suppies, they make me feel RAW and it hurts sometimes, not to mention the crap that comes out. I would much rather have stayed on the PIO's anyday!!!

I was on the suppos. for the first 6 weeks then switched to PIO shots. If I would have had it to do over again, I would have started out with PIO shots. The suppos. irritated my cervix to the point that I was spotting/bleeding. Needless to say, after a BFP, I freaked out with the spotting! IMO, the suppos are so not worth it, plus it's easier to do the shots (believe it or not!).

I was on suppositories until during my second cycle my level came back low....this is when I had my chemical. My clinic couldn't tell me that it was or wasn't the cause of the loss. I would recommend just doing the PIO shots, but they are no fun

Both forms of progesterone supplementation and replacement are effective. The PIO shots are measured better by serum levels, therefore, reassuring docs and pts. However, it means weeks of IM injections. The suppositories are absorbed directly into the uterus where it is needed, however, it does not show on the serum levels, therefore, making the docs and pt concerned their levels aren't high enough. I have seen studies where endometrial biopsies show that the progesterone absorption is actually higher with suppositories versus the PIO. Needless to say, at my facility our docs still prefer PIO until the first heartbeat and then will switch them. I hope this helps.
