question re baby aspirin

Post by JULES K »

Hi Girls,

I have read quite a few posts from people have taken baby aspirin during treatment. I went and bought some today as I am about to start sniffing on 20 October. However I am a bit concerned about taking it as the label says not to if you could be pregnant. I would just like to know from anybody who did take it were you advised by your clinic to do so or did you just decide yourselves and at what point during treatment do you start taking it?

I am a bit reluctant to ask our consultant as he has basically told us that the treatment either works or it doesn't = its all down to mother nature and you can't do anything that will make a difference.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks, love
Julie.

question re baby aspirin

Post by SBROWN »

Hi Julie

My clinic said there was no evidence to say it would help but if I wanted to take them it would not do any harm as long as they were only 75mg......I started taking them every evening after ET and everyday for 2ww.
Unfortuantly we got a negative.......I think if it does not harm you, do it because although there is no evidence, if ever it was proved you may kick yourself if you didn't.

It may pay to check with your clinic just to make sure there is no harm...

Good luck with your tmt.....Is it your first IVF or ICSI??

Sarah
xx

Hi Julie

I took it with my consultants consent, but I didn't start taking it until after ET. Fortunately for me, it might have done the trick because I've recently discovered I'm pg. I'm still taking the aspirin and will do until 12 weeks.

Good luck with your next tmt.

love nikola.xx

question re baby aspirin

Hi Julie,

Probably being very controversial here, and being someone who has taken low dose aspirin with the consent of my IVF clinic in the past, I have just had a consultation with a Mr Rai at St Mary's hospital London who was adamant that you shouldn't take aspirin. Didn't quite understand but it was something to do with the fact that it has been discovered (don't know by whom) that it is bad for the embies to be exposed to blood and oxygen early on, and I think the aspirin thins the blood which increases the blood flow to the womb.

I get the feeling that this is cutting edge stuff, and so may/will not be agreed with by other clinics, but as I have been told this I, and questioned it, I thought I would pass this on.

There seems to be no hard and fast rules in the world of IVF!!

Hope I haven't put a spanner in the works.

Karen
xx

question re baby aspirin

Post by jssgps »

We were told to take baby aspirin from the start of treatment to thicken the uterine lining. I had a scan yesterday and they said my uterine lining is perfect - triple lined (whatever that means). Now I am just terrified because I might have a cold.

Gayla

It's worrying cos you hear so much different advice. I took aspirin on our second ICSI which worked (now 18 weeks). However, I took it just during the build up as I heard it increased blood supply to the uterus as it thins the blood. I stopped taking it the day before EC.

I'm not saying this is right or wrong, its just what I did from what I was told at the time. I've read something since to say that you possibly shouldnt take aspirin if you're pregnant, although remember that these "baby" aspirin are low-dose.

Confusion reigns supreme as usual with this IVF thing !!! None of the clinics seem to want to give clear advice, they'd rather it be wishy washy to cover all angles!!

Best thing is to follow your instincts and dont worry too much. Jo. XX
Hi There

I personally would do what ever your clinic advises you if she says take it then do if she says don't then don't. I was advised by my clinic to take it from the start of EC and then I carried on taking it until about I was 7 weeks pregnant. They did want me to take it till I was 12 wks but I was bleeding so they thought it would be best to take me off it.

Love
Shell.
26wks 1d pg
x

Hi there,
I've been on low-dose aspirin since starting this last tmt - now 8weeks pg. My consultant told me I needed to be on it plus heparin injections because further tests showed a poor blood supply to my uterus!
I know there are alot of women going through tmt who take it as there was a piece of research publised which seemed to show it improved success rates.
Good luck with your tmt,
Di
