how early should they be able to visualize a sac via u/s

Post by alreadyblessed »

I had my first u/s today and the doc said he "thinks he sees a sac". Wants me to come back in 1 week. I am 18dp3dt (or 5 weeks pg). Anyone have any info on this? Thanks :)

I think I read somewhere that after your HCG hits 2000 you'll be able to see the sac. I dont know if that is an accurate measure, but its on one of the HCG websites somewhere floating around.

A sac ( as small as 3mm ) can be seen as early as 4 to 4.5 weeks (calculated from ur last menstrual period) when HCG levels are 1000-1500 mIU. Check the link above.

5 weeks is very early to see a lot. I would expect to see a little sac at that point and it sounds like thats what he saw, so I would say for now you look good. We don't do u/s until 5w5d unless we are very concerned about an ectopic. By next week you should see a bigger sac, a yolk sac and hopefully a fetal pole and maybe a heartbeat!!
I am an infertility nurse and I work in a major IVF facility. I am willing to answer questions and give guidance, however, since I am not treating you, only your physician can give you the most accurate information.
