New to IVF

Post by johnson1902 »

Hello All,
I'm new to IVF and to this site, I've read a lot of postings and I feel very confident that I have made the right choice to attempt IVF treatment.
My insurance covers 1 IVF per life-time, so we (my husband and I) are praying this 1st attempt will work.
Any suggestions from anyone? Please help me!
I'm working with my IVF nurse now, she is getting me ready for the October 08 IVF cycle, i'm so excited but nervous. I really want it to work. I'm 34 yrs old, my husband is 35, he has 1 daughter, she is 13. She wants a little brother or sister, we want to have one for her so bad.
I have unexplained infertility.
My husband and I have been together for 4 yrs, we have tired with no success, we have not tried any other treatment except tried natural.
Can anyone tell me are the meds really expensive? And how long do you have to take the meds once you get a positive prego test?
What can I expect? My IVF nurse says the doctor will advise on what meds and what type of IVF treatment and she will mail me the calendar, she says it's very hectic b/c you have a lot of appts, i told her it's ok, b/c i really want a baby. Also the nurses told me when I had my exploration surgery of my ovaries and stuff, she said the IVF women are the worst women b/c of the hormone therapy, is this true? Does those the drug therapy effect you like that?
I hope the cocktail they work up is the magical 1 and does the job the first time. I'm really really nervous.
I look forward to some good advice.
I think all of you women are some amazing women on this site and I admire each and every one of you.

I wish everyone the BEST OF LUCK!

Hi Johnson1902-
This is my first IVF as well... my dh and I have been ttc over 3 years and have unexplained IF. This may be our only IVF as well, so I'm hoping it does the trick, or atleast we'll have some embies to freeze. They'll start me on birth control at the start of AF later this month. So I'm assuming ER and ET in early Nov. Maybe we can stay in touch!

Insurance and IVF

Post by JennLB25 »

Johnson1902,

We too just learned that our Insurance covers 1 IVF in a life-time.

My DH has 1% normal morphology and very low sperm count and low motility.

I know of a girl by the name of Jennifer right there in Jacksonville, FL who did an IVF cycle a couple of years ago and got pg on her first try. She implanted 2 embies and both stuck. She had twins, a boy and a girl. So hang in there, it is possible and it does happen on the first try. Maybe not as frequent as the 2nd and 3rd try, but it does happen. I too am holding out hope that it works for me and my DH the first time around.

We have been trying for 11 years. I am 34 and DH is 33.

I was also told my tubes are damaged and need to be removed. So, I have surgery scheduled for Wednesday and will hopefully start my IVF cycle in November.

Here's all the baby dust************************ in the world coming your way and praying for a BFP for you real soon!

Hi Barb-
I'm excited and scared too! :) I start bcp in less than two weeks followed by Lupron and GonalF... We'll have to route each other on. This IS going to happen for us - I know it!
